Researchers study TMJD

Researchers in Gainesville hope to better understand a condition that afflicts more than 35 million people here in the United States.

Little is known about Temporomandibular Joint Disorder; a University of Florida study aims to change that.

In the lab, you'll find 39-year-old Carrie Saites taking part in what's called the Opera Study. Researchers are asking her to rate the intensity of her facial and jaw pain, from simple pressure points on her head, to electronic impulses on her arm.

Carrie admits ignoring the condition for years.Distributes and manufactures RUBBER SHEET,

"Anytime I was doing something stressful or I felt anxious or upon waking, I noticed I was clenching a lot and had that dull ache and chronic pain at most times," she said.

Discovering the reason why was a challenge.

"We have a very poor understanding of the causes of this pain. There is controversy on what to do when you find somebody who has TMJ pain," said Dr. Roger Fillingim, a University of Florida professor of dentistry.

Treatment can range from relaxation techniques, to mouth guards, to surgery. Most assume TMJD only affects the jaw; however, Dr. Fillingim says patients are at an increased risk of other problems.Full-service custom manufacturer of precision plastic injection mold,

"People with TMJ report higher levels of stress, and emotional distress, and some differences in how they cope with pain," Dr. Fillingim said.

That pain might also contribute to other conditions like headaches, irritable bowel, and fibromyalgia.

"It seems to travel with other pain conditions, but what's the chicken and what's the egg? We don't know.Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists. That's what we're trying to discover," according to Dr. Fillingim. "There are differences in pain sensitivity. That is, people with TMJ pain found heat stimuli and mechanical stimuli to be more painful compared to their pain free counterparts."

Volunteers like Carrie are helping researchers figure out if patients feel pain differently.

Because she's in the study, Carrie won't know what her tests mean, or if she even has TMJD.

While she's not getting special treatments, she's learned way to help ditch her pain pills.

"I would usually take ibuprofen to subside the pain instead of doing something to stop it. I would just dull it," she says.

So now, to stop it, she first recognizes her triggers.

"I would have to be hypersensitive and conscience about what I was doing and opening my mouth and just letting myself relax," Carrie explained.FIRMAR is a Malaysia Injection Moulding Manufacturer and Plastic Injections Components Manufacturer, "It's almost like relaxing your shoulders. You do the same thing with your jaw."

Storehouses for Solar Energy Can Step In When the Sun Goes Down

If solar energy is eventually going to matter — that is, generate a significant portion of the nation’s electricity — the industry must overcome a major stumbling block, experts say: finding a way to store it for use when the sun isn’t shining.

That challenge seems to be creating an opening for a different form of power, solar thermal, which makes electricity by using the sun’s heat to boil water. The water can be used to heat salt that stores the energy until later, when the sun dips and households power up their appliances and air-conditioning at peak demand hours in the summer.

Two California companies are planning to deploy the storage technology: SolarReserve,Take a walk on the natural side with stunning and luxurious Floor tiles from The Tile Shop. which is building a plant in the Nevada desert scheduled to start up next year, and BrightSource,Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality, which plans three plants in California that would begin operating in 2016 and 2017. Together, the four projects will be capable of powering tens of thousand of households throughout a summer evening.

Whether the technology will be widely adopted remains to be seen, but companies like Google, Chevron and Good Energies are investing in it, and the utilities NV Energy and Southern California Edison have signed long-term contracts to buy power from these radically different new power plants.

One crucial role of the plants will be complementing solar panels, which produce electricity directly from sunlight. When the panels ramp down at dusk or on cloudy days, the plants will crank up, drawing on the stored thermal energy.

That job will become more important if photovoltaic panels, which have plunged in price lately, become even cheaper and sprout on millions of rooftops. As the grid starts depending more heavily on solar panels or wind turbines, it will need other energy sources that can step in quickly to balance the system — preferably ones classified as renewable.

Most utilities are trying to generate as many kilowatt-hours of renewable energy as they can to meet stiffer state requirements on incorporating more alternative energy, said Kevin B. Smith, the chief executive of SolarReserve.

“As we move forward, we’ll get more and more traction with the fact we can provide more capacity,” Mr. Smith said, referring to his company’s storage technology.Alfa plast mould is Plastic moulds Manufacturer and plastics Mould Exporters in India since 1992,

The Energy Department seems to agree: in September it gave SolarReserve a $737 million loan guarantee for its project in Nevada. The plant will generate 110 megawatts at peak and store enough heat to run for eight to 10 hours when the sun is not shining.

The public’s view on loan guarantees for solar projects has soured somewhat since the bankruptcy of Solyndra, a California company that received a $535 million loan guarantee to build a factory to make solar panels — only to see the market for the modules crash.

But the outlook has always been clearer for companies that make electricity, which,Distributes and manufactures RUBBER SHEET, unlike solar modules, is generally presold by contract.

Technical details of the SolarReserve and BrightSource plants vary slightly, but both will use thousands of computer-operated poster-size mirrors aiming sunlight at a tower that absorbs it as heat.

SolarReserve absorbs the heat in molten salt, which can be used immediately to boil water, generating steam that turns a conventional turbine and generator. Hot salt can also be used to retain the heat for many hours for later use. BrightSource heats water that can be used immediately as steam or to heat salt for storage.

The plants rely on salt because it can store far more heat than water can. But once molten, it must be kept that way or it will freeze to a solid in part of the plant where it will be difficult to melt again. “You’ve made a commitment to those salt molecules,” said John Woolard, the chief executive of BrightSource.

The technology is not complicated, but the economics are.

The simplest, least expensive path for solar thermal is to turn the heat into electricity immediately. But the companies are a bit like the farmer who harvests the grain and stores it in a silo rather than shipping it straight to market on the expectation that prices will be higher later. They are betting that in revenue terms, the hour at which the energy is delivered will be more important than the amount generated.

The notion is that widespread adoption of solar panels — whether on rooftops or in giant arrays in the desert — will change the hours at which prices are highest.

Today, electricity prices usually peak in the late afternoon and evening on hot summer days. “Photovoltaic panels will do a pretty good job of chopping that peak” in the late afternoon, said Paul Denholm, a solar specialist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden,Can't afford a third party merchant account right now? Cashless Lagos kicks off to herald new banking regime

The new policy, oil paintings for sale which stipulates a ‘cash handling charge’ on daily cash withdrawals or cash deposits that exceed N150,000 for individuals and N1,000,000 for corporate bodies, according to the apex bank, aims at reducing the amount of physical cash circulating in the economy, and encouraging more electronic-based transactions, such as payments for goods, services,China ceramic tile transfers,Ventilation system among others.

The scheme was announced last May by CBN, which imposes charges of N100 per N1000 for individuals and N200 per N1000 for coporate bodies for cash transactions above the limits. The apex bank said the policy would commence next December with a pilot scheme commencing in Lagos by January 1, 2012, with Port Harcourt, Abuja and Kano, following by June.

It stated that the aspects of the policy that would apply in Lagos State “tagged Cashless Lagos,” are as follows:
“Only CIT (Cash-in-Transit) licensed companies shall be allowed to provide cash pick-up services; banks will cease cash in transit lodgment services rendered to merchant- customers in Lagos State from December 31, 2011. Any bank that continues to offer cash in transit lodgment services to merchants shall be sanctioned.

Third party cheques above N150, 000 shall not be eligible for encashment over the counter. Value for such cheques shall be received through the clearing house; the service charges/fees will not apply until March 30, 2012, in order to give people time to migrate to electronic channels and experience the infrastructure that has been put in place.”

It, however, advised banks to encourage their customers to migrate to available electronic channels, and where possible demonstrate the costs that will accrue to those that continue to transact high volumes of cash from March 30, 2012 in Lagos State.
On the reasons for introducing the new cash policy, the banking said: One, to drive development and modernization of our payment system in line with Nigeria’s vision 2020 goal of being among the top 20 economies by the year 2020. An efficient and modern payment system is positively correlated with economic development, and is a key enabler for economic growth.

Two, to reduce the cost of banking services, including cost of credit, and drive financial inclusion by providing more efficient transaction options and greater reach.

Three, to improve the effectiveness of monetary policy in managing inflation and driving economic growth. In addition, the cash policy aims to curb some of the negative consequences associated with the high usage of physical cash in the economy, including: high cost of cash, high risk of using cash; high subsidy: CBN analysis showed that only 10 per cent of daily banking transactions are above N150,000, but the 10 per cent account for majority of the high value transactions. This suggests that the entire banking population subsidizes the costs that the tiny minority (about 10 per cent) incur in terms of high cash usage.

To justify its action the CBN governor had noted that high cash usage results in a lot of money outside the formal economy, thus limiting the effectiveness of monetary policy in managing inflation and encouraging economic growth, stressing that it enables corruption, leakages and money laundering, among other cash-related fraudulent activities.
The limits are cumulative daily limits each for withdrawal, and for deposits , for instance for Individuals, the daily free withdrawal limit is N150,000; while the daily free deposit limit is N150,000.Plastic mould

The limits apply to the account so far as it involves cash, irrespective of channel (like over the counter, ATM, third party cheques encashed over the counter, etc) in which cash is withdrawn or deposited (e.g. if an individual withdraws N50,000 over the counter, and N150,000 from the ATM on the same day,Plastic moulds the total the total amount withdrawn by the customer is N200,000, and the service charge will apply on N50,000 - the amount above the daily free limit). The limit also applies to cash brought through CIT companies, as the CIT company only serves as a means of transportation. The charges shall apply from March 30, 2012 in Lagos.

The service charge for daily cumulative deposits above the limit into an account shall be borne by the account holder.

However, during the pilot in Lagos, individuals paying money from Lagos, into an account outside Lagos, shall bear the charges for any single transaction above the daily limit.

Looking back at 2011

It was a close call, but West Linn voters approved a bond measure to fund a new police station in the Nov. 8 election. The new public safety facility will be located in the Willamette neighborhood at Eighth Avenue and 13th Street.

After citizens shot down a $10.8 million bond measure to fund a new public safety facility on Parker Road in May 2010, city officials credited the success of the latest bond measure to the efforts of the 16-member Community Police Facility Development Committee.

The group reviewed more than a dozen potential sites, alternative design and finance options and crafted an outreach and communication strategy for passing the bond measure. It presented its formal recommendations to the West Linn City Council in December 2010.

City staff said the $8.5 million bond will finance the cost of land acquisition and the building’s design, construction, as well as outfitting the new police department facility. During its Nov. 28 meeting, the West Linn City Council authorized the sale of $8.5 million in general obligation bonds with a 20-year term.

The current police station — located at 22825 Willamette Drive near the West Linn-Oregon City arch bridge — was built in 1936, is crowded but can’t expand past is current footprint, has little parking and isn’t seismically safe.

The Willamette neighborhood site required the city to acquire four parcels at the northeast corner of the intersection of Eighth Avenue and 13th Street, tucked on land between Les Schwab Tires and the Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue’s Station 59.

Measure 3-377 will cost taxpayers about $46 a year for a $285,000 home over 20 years, or about $3.80 a month.

City council approved a motion to appoint members to a newly formed Police Station Steering Committee at its Dec. 12 meeting, which will act as a go-between for the contractors and the city council during the design and construction process, making recommendations along the way.

The oversight committee will then form a larger design committee with up to 20 neighbors,Accept credit cards with a third party merchant account, stakeholders, police department employees and other community representatives. This group will provide input on what the building will look like inside and out, as well as the surrounding landscaping.

The employee-owned Blue Heron Paper Company abruptly went out of business in February, shutting down its plant with 175 workers in Oregon City and stopping use of a 39-acre parcel with a lagoon in West Linn. Our company focus on manufacturing Plastic mould , The company couldn’t pull back since filing for bankruptcy protection in Dec. 2009 and attempting to produce less newsprint and more of an environmentally friendly, commercial-grade towel material.

Company president Mike Siebers said that mills like Blue Heron were “where the actual recycling of the collected wastepaper you set out at the curb” took place.

Metro has expressed interest in the old mill site and Water Environmental Services (WES) wants to take over its West Linn property. However, the deadline for submitting bids on the parcels passed Dec. 14, and no official announcements or transactions were made.

If WES secures the property, the city of West Linn may develop and restore the property as parkland, which was formerly used as a wastewater treatment and discharge facility. The property sits along Volpp Street in the Willamette neighborhood.

In June, Walmart, the world’s largest corporation, announced it would open one if its “neighborhood markets” in the space formerly occupied by Bales Marketplace off Willamette Drive in West Linn, spurring controversy among city residents.

Walmart’s “market” stores typically measure about 42,000 square feet and feature groceries, a pharmacy, paper goods, health and beauty products and pet and household supplies — a similar range of products to what is available at most Fred Meyer stores.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds,

West Linn’s store, which will likely open in 2013, will employ between 75 and 100 people, and hiring is tentatively scheduled to begin in summer 2012.

City of West Linn staff announced Sept. 19 that the building permits for the property at 19133 Willamette Drive had been approved and were available for the applicant — Walmart.

The city stated that it anticipates minor improvements will be made to the outside of the building as well, such as repainting and repairing cracked window trims. The square footage of the store will not increase. According to the Walmart website, the company does not have any of its neighborhood markets in Oregon yet, although it has permits filed for similar stories in Gresham and Beaverton. Another market is also planned for Lake Oswego off Jean Road. These stores will join Walmart’s 17 supercenters, 14 discount stores and a distribution center in Oregon.Bathroom Floor tiles at Great Prices from Topps Tiles.

Supporters for an aquatic and recreation center in West Linn are still optimistic they can get the job done with a November 2012 vote for a $22 million capital bond.

Having tabled the push for the pool earlier this year to make room for the police station measure, aquatic center backers started gearing up again in December.

The proposed pool and recreation center would be built on 7.5 acres off Parker Road near Tanner Creek Park and would include a recreation pool, room to add a competition pool, indoor sport courts, an elevated running track, a fitness center with studios and amenities such as patio seating, a snack bar and recreation space for teens.

The hope is to work with a financial or operational partner.

The city parks and recreation department is seeking requests for information (RFI) to identify potential partners.

The city of Lake Oswego plans to double the amount of drinking water treated at a plant it owns in West Linn’s Robinwood neighborhood, expanding its capacity from 16 million gallons a day to 32 million gallons, with the potential to handle up to 38 million gallons.

Neighbors have been vehemently fighting all year against an expansion of the West Linn plant, but the expansion could provide vital emergency water to the city of West Linn while servicing Lake Oswego and Tigard, which have partnered up to install a larger pipeline from the river to the plant and increase the size and capacity of the plant.

This plant expansion is one element in a $200 million water supply partnership between Lake Oswego and Tigard.

The timeline for the project includes submitting the application for the plant at the beginning of 2012 and submitting the pipeline application in April. Design and permitting is scheduling to extend into 2013, with construction from 2013 to 2015 and completion set for 2016.

West Linn cut cable television ties with Oregon City and the Willamette Falls Media Center (WFMC) this year, making a move to the larger Metropolitan Area Communications Commission (MACC).

After the city questioned the media center’s financial responsibility, the center temporarily shut down in the spring for an investigation. No wrongdoings or mismanagement were found, but that didn’t satisfy some officials’ concerns.

Both cities jointly share the public access facility in Oregon City, where public, education and government (PEG) shows are created, edited and aired. WFMC is governed by the Clackamas Cable Advisory Board (CCAB), which is composed of three volunteers from West Linn and three volunteers from Oregon City.Buy oil paintings for sale online. Eugenia Bone's 'Mycophilia' is fun and fascinating

The young woman sitting next to me on my flight to Portland, Ore., tapped me on the shoulder. "You've been marking up that book for a long time. What is it?"

" 'Mycophilia: Revelations from the Weird World of Mushrooms,' by Eugenia Bone," I said. "It's all about fungi. That might sound boring, but it's fascinating.Accept credit cards with a third party merchant account,"

"Would my mom like it? She's a gardener."

"Absolutely," I told her. "Everyone would like it."

Well, maybe not everyone,Bathroom Floor tiles at Great Prices from Topps Tiles. but Bone's book about mycophilia -- the love of mushrooms -- will delight many readers. Reading it muted the discomforts of my five-hour flight so thoroughly that I was actually shocked when the pilot said we were landing.

Bone is a New York food writer and author whose mushroom zeal began with her taste buds. She makes a charming and witty tour guide through the vast world of fungi, which make up 25 percent of the world's biomass and are more closely related to animals than plants. (This is why, she points out, it's so hard to rid ourselves of fungal infections -- the medications that attack the fungus also attack us).

Her attention was first snagged when a Colorado massage therapist offered to take her mushroom hunting. She was dazzled to find orange chanterelleBuy oil paintings for sale online.s and a porcini. A few weeks later, Bone's husband wanted her to tromp to the top of a mountain with friends and she, a reluctant hiker, agreed. After about five minutes, though, her newly honed mushroom eye brought the natural world to life for her.

"One minute we were walking through the forest, and then, as if by magic,VulcanMold is a plastic molds and Injection mold manufacturer in china. we witnessed the conversion of the forest floor," she writes. "Everywhere, boletus [porcini]: big spongy mature specimens and hard young ones that looked like beige softballs growing in tidy rows along the side of fallen timber."

Bone was now hooked on wild mushrooms, but didn't like the prices back in New York. So she joined the New York Mycological Society, solely because the group offered guided mushroom hunts. At her first meeting, she realized that this subculture had interests far more esoteric than hers.

"I pretended to be interested in all mushrooms, nodding with phony delight at the slides of inedible molds or polypores or whatever," she writes. "I was embarrassed to admit I was participating in a scientific club mainly in anticipation of spring, when the morels came up and the hunting would begin.MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds,"

But as she started foraging, and attending mycological conferences around the country -- including a magic-mushroom festival in Telluride, Colo. -- she found her interest swelling. The book is rich with scientific detail on the classifications, habits and properties of fungi, as well as facts that are downright staggering.

Who knew that a cubic meter of air holds up to 10,000 fungal spores, which we inhale every time we breathe? Who knew that dense mats of mycelium -- the white, stringy fungal matter under the ground -- are the primary vector for nutrients to most plants? Who knew that dessert truffles in the Middle East may have been the "manna from heaven" described in the Bible?

Two great years forecast for automotive tooling industry

Just in time for Christmas comes evidence that Windsor’s bellwether industrial sector – automotive tooling – is pointing to two exceptionally strong upcoming years.

Not only are the survivors of the machine, tool, die and mould making (MTDM) industries finishing 2011 in robust financial health, they promise to do even better in 2012 and 2013 – much better, in fact, observers and insiders say.

“The next two years should be rock solid, better than we’ve seen in a decade,” say Craig Wiggins, whose T & C Capital Inc. arranges financing for tooling programs on both sides of the Detroit River.

“2011 wasn’t bad – it was picking up. But I’ve been looking at the forecasts and 2012 is double that, 2013 is looking even better,” Wiggins said this week. Much of the work is already booked and the steel already ordered or “sitting on the floor” as inventory ready to be cut into new automotive tools and dies.

During six years of downsizing and bankruptcies, the region’s 200 MTDM employers were slashed in half or worse, putting thousands of people out of work and leaving dozens of empty plants scattered through local industrial parks.

In 2009, the number of jobs in the sector stood at about 8,500, down 6,000 from its peak. Up-to-date figures are not available. If you wish to use a third party payment gateway with your ecommerce solution,

Most of the surviving companies are now flush with work,MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds, going seven days a week again, stockpiling steel and even turning down offers to bid on new vehicle programs.

This is good news for the region and the provincial economy. If there’s an infallible canary in Ontario’s economic coalmine it’s the huge MTDM sector, one of the largest in the world and once the largest employer in the Windsor region.

“If we’re not still first, we’re second to automotive parts and assembly,” Wiggins says.

When too many of those shops start to slow down, as they did in 2005, or start going out of business as they did in 2008, hearts freeze with fear around these parts.

Professor Tony Faria, a long-time automotive consultant and expert observer at the University of Windsor’s Odette School of Business, says he detected a distinct improvement of the mood in the MTDM sector this fall as he took classes on tours of a half dozen of the leading local shops.

“In most of our visits they were very busy and really upbeat about the new business coming in,” Faria said this week. “They all talked about hiring. I think things are perking up.”

Wiggins says the improvement is due to a confluence of factors, from a rush of new cars and trucks being brought to market by the automakers to renewed competition between fewer surviving plants.

“We have a nice effect going on right now – the dollar is a little bit better,Our company focus on manufacturing Plastic mould , there’s lots of work out there and the tight lead times don’t allow the manufacturers to go overseas to get their tooling,” Wiggins said from his Tecumseh office on Friday.

Billions of dollars worth of mould-making and other tooling work has gone to China in recent years. But there are timeline penalties for the companies that do so in an industry where short launches produce higher profits, because fresh product is a major competitive edge.

In some cases, delayed automotive programs have been given the green light too close to the launch dates for work which recently would have been outsourced to China. “Now they can’t afford to have it sitting on a boat for three weeks,” Wiggins said.

Nagging quality issues with some Chinese suppliers have also reduced the appetitite of the automakers and their Tier One suppliers for some of the outsourcing, he said.

The short lead times has also lead to a shortage of tooling steel, which is a specialty product, rather than a commodity readily available.

Wiggins said many tool shops have found waiting lists of up to six months for the kinds of steel they need, which is unusual, and some automakers have even been cutting cheques in advance for the steel to ensure their toolers have it, which is unheard of.

Faria said the slow pace of the recovery “has been a bit of blessing in disguise” for the industry. It prevented MTDM companies from over investing when the downturn ended, and they weren’t tempted to quickly hire people as soon as some work started re-appearing.

“This bodes really well” for the OEMs, Faria said – the Original Equipment Manufacturers, as the Detroit, Japanese and German automakers call themselves.

Thanks to a flood of new models being planned by a rebounding automotive industry, the order pipeline for the MTDM sector is now crowded for months in advance, Wiggins said.

General Motors, Ford, Fiat-Chrysler and Toyota all have full portfolios of new product booked years out that require new tooling, “Honda not so much.”

The shops are getting toward the end of the new dies and moulds they have been cutting for the 2013 model year. The last of those tools must be shipped to the manufacturers by mid summer of 2012 for production ramp-up.

“The 2014 stuff is what’s jamming up the floor right now, and the 2015 stuff is starting to materialize,” Wiggins said.

The record year for work in the MTDM sector was 1995, when all the automakers had plenty of new product in their pipelines and General Motors put the mother of all tooling programs out for bids: the GMT 800, otherwise known as the GM truck family of full-size body-on-frame pickups and SUVs. The value of the GM work totalled several billion dollars.

“A lot of new boats got bought that year, and a lot of new houses got built on (Riverside) Drive,” Wiggins said.

The entire GMT family – the Chevy Tahoe, Chevy Suburban, Chevy Silverado, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon and GMC Sierra – is being either redesigned or re-engineered again for the model year 2014, which is causing part of the industry’s latest cyclical boom.

Tooling for each of those vehicles is dominating the work order sheets in local plants, along with last minute work on the 2013 Cadillac CTS crossover, the all-new 2014 Jeep Grand Wagoneer and a re-engineered 2014 Dodge RAM 1500.

Also being refreshed that year are the Chevy Cruze and the Impala and Corvette are being redesigned, but less of that work has been awarded in Windsor, Tecumseh and Lakeshore.

For 2014,As a professional manufacturer of China ceramic tile in China, Automotive News reports that Ford is redesigning the Edge and the Lincoln MKX, restyling the Fiesta (which requires less new tooling than a redesign), and “freshening” the Explorer and F-Series Superduty, although the last two could be pushed out to the 2015 model year.

There’s only one cloud on the horizon, Wiggins said: “Hopefully the banks will lend them the the money” to do the work, he says of the tooling sector. Toolmakers are normally paid for each billion-dollar tooling program after production starts and the new cars and trucks are rolling into showrooms, not before.

Two years ago much of the MTDM industry was facing bankruptcy along with GM and Chrysler. But persistent lobbying of the U.Buy oil paintings for sale online.S. and Canadian government convinced Ottawa and Washington to force the automakers to pay off their debts to the sector.

Shorter train waiting times on N-S Line

From today, commuters can expect shorter waiting times as SMRT increases train frequency on the North-South Line.

SMRT said yesterday that waiting times would be cut from six minutes to 21/2 minutes between 7am and 7.30am, and between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Normally, from 7.30am to 9am, and from 5pm to 7pm, the waiting time is 21/2 minutes to five minutes. The new waiting times will be reviewed at a later date.

After a series of North-South Line breakdowns last week, SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) conducted an overnight inspection of the North-South and East-West lines last Saturday.

As a result of that inspection,As a professional manufacturer of China ceramic tile in China, a 40kmh speed limit was imposed on trains running near the city as a safety precaution. SMRT said that this increased travelling times by two to seven minutes.

LTA said yesterday that SMRT would conduct train trial runs at different speeds over the next few days. Depending on the results, LTA and SMRT would consider raising the speed limit to 60kmh.

The inspection also led to the discovery of 13 defective trains, which were later withdrawn from service.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said yesterday on Facebook that SMRT has repaired 11 of the 13 trains. The 11 trains have been put back into service.

"Hence, (SMRT is) now able to operate the trains during peak hours at intervals very close to what they were before the two major incidents last week," said Mr Lui.

The overnight inspection also showed that 21 "claws", or metal grips, along the North- South and East-West lines were missing.

The claws, which secure the third rail,Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising, have been put back in place. As an added temporary measure, they are secured with cable ties.

my paper asked LTA and SMRT why plastic cable ties were used, after transport experts said that they might not be able to withstand vibrations on the tracks. This page contains information about molds,

SMRT said yesterday that the third rail is designed to be held up by the claws without fastening, as the claws are kept in place by the weight of the third rail. The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free,

It added that, over the years, claws have been dislodged sporadically due to vibration. But they are replaced during weekly inspections, and this has no impact on the safety or reliability of the system.

SMRT said that the manufacturer of the third rail had recommended that "we use cable ties when we reinstate the claws, in order to minimise (their) dislodgement".Buy oil paintings for sale online.

As a precaution, SMRT had on Sunday secured the third rail and the claws near the city with cable ties.

LTA said that SMRT "is in the process of engaging railway engineering experts to help advise and replace the cable ties with a more permanent securing system".

Alternatives sought after solar panel scheme switched off

It has told its officers to explore fresh possibilities for using council properties in the generation of renewable energy, in the hope this can help tackle the widespread problem of fuel poverty among tenants.

Up to 1,000 homes and dozens of other council buildings were in line to be fitted with solar panels,MDC Mould specialized of Injection moulds, but all the companies interested in the project withdrew their tenders after the UK Government made financial changes.Accept credit cards with a third party merchant account,

Councillor Ken Guild, leader of the SNP administration, told a special meeting of the policy and resources committee that the companies felt the scheme was no longer commercially viable.

''It is a very frustrating situation we find ourselves in,'' he said.

Housing convener Jimmy Black said tenants could have saved between 100 and 200 a year on their energy bills if the scheme had gone ahead. Businesses would also have benefited from the work.

It was difficult to make some council houses energy efficient because of the way they had been built and solar panels would have been a solution.

He said the blame for the scheme's demise lay at the door of the coalition Government in Westminster.

Richard McCready, Labour group environment spokesman, proposed that council officers be instructed to keep looking for renewable energy projects that could make use of council properties. This was agreed to by the administration.

Councillor McCready said: ''I supported the proposals when they were first brought forward and I am very disappointed that the UK Government has made this pre-emptive strike against the scheme. We are passionate about polished tiles.

''The council is right to make its voice heard to the UK Government calling for a rethink of the policy.

''I accept that changes made by the Conservative-led UK Government make it difficult for this scheme to continue.

''However, we have missed out by being slightly late in the game and we need to ensure that this does not happen in the future. We need to look for new ways to maximise green renewable energy generation in Dundee.

''We should not just sit back and heckle from the sidelines though — we should be calling on officers to continue to look for innovative, cost-effective schemes which would encourage renewable electricity generation in our city.

''This would be for the benefit of all the people of Dundee, as it could deal with fuel poverty and cutting the city's carbon footprint.''

The solar power scheme was derailed by a reduction in the feed-in tariff, the amount that those who produce power from their homes and sell it back to the national grid would receive from the state in exchange for their electricity.Buy oil paintings for sale online.

The tariff has been cut from 43p per kiloWatt hour, to 21p per kWh.

A report to the committee explained: ''The opportunity to assist families directly affected by fuel poverty has been lost. Allure of Titanic endures for Halifax buffs 100 years after sinking

Ken Pinto was just a young boy in north-end Halifax when he first heard the dramatic account of a story that would captivate him for decades.Smooth-On is your source for Mold Making and casting materials including silicone rubber and urethane rubber,

It was the early 1960s and his father, a TV repairman, had about five sets in the house that were often tuned to old movies. But one stood out for Pinto.

He remembers the grainy black-and-white image of a luxury ocean liner, its affluent and impoverished passengers and the seeming impossibility of the majestic ship going down after striking an iceberg in the North Atlantic.

The movie — Walter Lord's classic "A Night to Remember" — told the tale of the Titanic and ingrained in Pinto a fascination with the mysteries and enduring questions that carries through to this day.

"When you're four or five years old, you have the ship and the iceberg and the story is so romantic," says Pinto, who plans to hold a commemoration this April in Halifax on the centennial of the sinking.

"You have fathers and sons parting ways, families separating — it's the emotion. It's an emotional icon. It's so human — the death, the love stories, the loss.

"It just has that human factor that other disasters don't seem to have."

Pinto, now 59, wants Canada to formally recognize the disaster of April 15, 1912,Tru-Form Plastics is a one-stop shop for plastic Injection Molding, when the largest liner of its time went down south of the Grand Banks after colliding with an iceberg on a calm,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, moonless night on its maiden voyage.

He's hoping to hold a wake, film festival, concerts, and to spur interest in the creation of a Halifax monument to the disaster's 1,500 victims and the just over 700 who survived.

Moreover, Pinto and others want to highlight the special relationship this coastal capital has with one of history's most compelling tragedies.

Author and guide Blair Beed has been leading bus tours through the city with a focus on the Titanic for 38 years. As a professional manufacturer of China ceramic tile in China,

He grew up in a neighbourhood near one of the city's three cemeteries that contain the remains of 150 Titanic victims who were brought to Halifax after being recovered at sea.

But despite the port's central role in the Titanic story, Beed says many of the tourists he takes to the city's two dozen Titanic sites weren't aware until recently of its deep ties to the ill-fated ship.

"We know the story of the ship that sank and that some died and some survived, but a lot of them don't go on and mention the Halifax segment," said Beed, who wrote "Titanic Victims in Halifax Graveyards."

"I want to add that extra chapter — what happened after the ship sank? What happened to the victims floating in the ocean? What was the response of the city?"

Key to that story are the cable ships that were dispatched to pick up bodies from the rough Atlantic days after it became clear that the Titanic had gone down and only those who made it into the lifeboats had survived.

The Minia and Mackay-Bennett sailed to the area only to find bodies bobbing in the frigid waters, many positioned upright in life-vests as if they were walking in place.

The local crew had the grim task of identifying victims by going through their personal effects — business cards, letters, jewelry — and painstakingly cataloguing them in a record of the more than 300 bodies recovered at sea.

"They went out and did this horrendous work of collecting bodies and burying them at sea," said Garry Shutlak, a senior archivist at the Nova Scotia Archives. "It was not a nice job."

As the Mackay-Bennett sailed up the harbour, church bells began ringing until every one of the 70 churches in the area tolled its bells to honour the dead as they were delivered to a cable wharf laden with coffins.

"The city quite literally was in mourning," said Shutlak, who has been studying the Titanic since the 1970s.Buy oil paintings for sale online. "All of this had an effect on this city."

Beed also says that emotional connection with the Titanic can be felt in streets that remain unchanged since the ships and their "cargo of death" arrived, leaving an indelible mark on the waterfront.

"We're the people who are the guardians of the memory of the dead and I think that's what gives us a prominence that other places don't have," he says, adding that the Titanic cemeteries attract people through the year.

"She was built in Belfast, but remembered in Halifax."

Asked if he ever tires of talking about the Titanic, Beed says there are always new wrinkles and revelations to the enduring tale, explaining that the many unanswered questions keep the mystique alive.

Was it brittle steel that doomed the ship? Were women and children told to abandon ship first? Was there another vessel nearby that could have saved people? Did the crew respond with the appropriate urgency? Were third-class passengers really locked down below?

The questions still resonate for Titanic buffs, who have watched interest in the disaster ebb and flow over the years only to see it surge in 1997 with the release of James Cameron's dramatic film account of the story.

Beed says he is still drawn to the human stories.

"It's really the stories of people running around at the last minute and people who are thinking of different things they should do to maybe survive a little longer," he says.

"Imagine a man and a woman, and the girls can go in the lifeboat and the boy has to stay with the father. Who could make that decision? And yet they did it that night."

Bohol: Cradle of Caves, Corals

Philippines — My ears thrummed in the silence as I crouched inside the maw of Panglao’s forbidden cave and shone my headlamp in its dark abyss.

Water glistened on the dripstones above and I smelled the wet chill breath of the giant fissure where the karst parted reluctantly,The Transaction Group offers the best high risk merchant account services, like a convoluted shell. I thrust myself further in, perched on a spur of the vertical drop and squinted at the thick blackness.

Just below me, I made out possible handholds and footholds, though too shallow and too far apart, on a limestone wall angled at 90 degrees. But even with my headlamp and flashlight combined, I cannot see the bottom.

This was my first time to steal alone in an unexplored, unnamed cave. I should have brought a rope. Too late now though. I picked up a broken rock and hurled it in the impenetrable blackness. It clattered down a long time before I heard an unmistakable splash.

I shucked off my shoes. My bare feet can purchase a better grip on the slippery rock though I have to take care not to cut myself on the jagged parts. Warily, I inched down the wall and lowered myself into a ledge less than two feet wide.

By now, I must be half a hundred feet inside the sinkhole. Much lower down, I can see another limestone buttress protruding like a serrated tooth out of still rippling blue waters.

Bohol cradles at least 1,400 caves. Some say the island province took its name from the local word “buho”, meaning “hole” because many of its caves are sinkholes like this – openings from which spring waters seep.

Bizarre creatures, such as albino crabs and blind fish, populate this world where the sun never shines. Humans also sought refuge in these secret passageways. In fact, Danao folks named the Francisco Dagohoy Cave after the patriot who hid away in its underwater mazes in 1744 after starting an 85-year revolt against Spain.

After some maneuvering and grappling with the karst,Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists. I managed to drop down to the lowest shelf and into the ice-cold water of a narrow pool which disappeared beneath a giant limestone tongue.

Right away,Buy oil paintings for sale online. I suspected other passageways lay hidden beyond, in the wilderness of rocks. This is just a branch of a vast network of streams sunk deep inside the earth.

Unfortunately, I can go no further without risking life and limb. Among other things, I have no guideline, no underwater light and no scuba gear with me. And no one knew I’m here in case something bad happens. My forbidden cave has to wait.

But for an hour at least,I have just spent two weeks shopping for tile and have discovered China Porcelain tile. I sat at the edge of the waters. I turned off my headlamp and lingered in the abyss, letting the womblike darkness and the silence of the karst walls engulf me. I felt an eerie comfort here, a strange peace.

I don’t wonder now why monks, warriors and mystics meditate and pursue vision quests inside caves. Ancient folks have always revered these subterranean labyrinths as the dwelling place of spirits and a gateway to the netherworld.

Anyway, the Panglao Island Nature Resort (PINR) where I was booked, has at least 20 caves running beneath its 14 hectare property.

Hinagdanan, which means “laddered” in the dialect, lies 150 meters from the hotel’s entrance. Stalactites and stalagmites stud a hallway which leads to an underground lagoon. Both ends of this public cave are open, permitting light to flood in through gaps in the ceiling.

On the other hand, Kambagat, a private cave, is just five minute’s walk from the lobby. The name means Camp in the Sea, or “kampo sa dagat”, and is also referred to as “Pinagtaguan”, or Hiding Place. Almost a hundred Japanese soldiers hid here during World War II. A Boholano guide showed them in and brought food to them until the war was over.

Now, the hotel owner had steps carved in the bedrock to make it easier for guests to negotiate the down climb to Kambagat’s outer chamber two stories below. Before, natives grappled with hanging vines and creepers to lower themselves into the entrance.

Developers also blasted off one rock wall of Kambagat to expose an inner chamber with a pool of brackish water sixteen feet deep. A dark tunnel branched out to a passage where countless bats roost.

The cave was empty when I descended. An outcrop shaped like a giant komodo dragon guarded the stalagmite island of the inner chamber. From the dimly lit waters, I made out canyons of ancient rock and collapsed stone shelves. The waters are bone-chilling cold but I lingered till dusk, savoring the silence.

Then I walked back to my Forest Cottage and rinsed off in the private Jacuzzi on my veranda. As I lay in the bubbles, I gazed at a bleached skeleton of a rainforest giant towering over what remained of the wilderness. On the other side, clusters of thatched roofs protruded from the tops of bamboos and palms.

Yet it’s hard to imagine that I’ve just landed in Tagbilaran on the Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight from Manila over an hour ago.

“Because it’s a nature resort, guests should understand and appreciate Mother Nature as it manifests itself,” the hotel advisory atop my dresser stated. “Lizards, big or small, may visit and don’t panic in case you see pythons.” Thank heavens,China yiri mould is a professional manufacturer which integrates Plastic Mould design and manufacture and plastic product development. I love reptiles.

Before dinner, I took a dip at the twin eternity pools next to the buffet pavilion, watching the horizon fill with the lights of fishing boats. Swiftlets, “sayaw-sayaw” (literally “dance, dance”) dive-bombed the pool for insects, grazing my head with their wings.

Next morning, I sailed off for Balicasag, a coral atoll floating over the Bohol Sea, a stretch of blue which goes out into the Pacific Ocean.

Its 16-hectare Marine Sanctuary features a narrow fringe of coral reef ending abruptly in massive walls that formed overhangs, grottos and terraced gardens of giant sea fans and corals before they dropped off into nothingness.

Pinellas commissioners considering legalizing backyard chickens

They are illegal, an underground skirting of the law in Pinellas County, one contraband egg at a time.

Backyard chickens.

Raising these fowl in unincorporated residential areas of Pinellas violates the county code.

But supporters of urban farming want the County Commission to pass an ordinance allowing them in unincorporated areas. The first of two public hearings will be at 9:30 a.m. today in Clearwater, leading to a final hearing and vote Dec. 20.

Home-raised chickens help people save money in a struggling economy, said Lisa McBride, 51,Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , organizer of Pinellas County Citizens for Backyard Poultry.

"It's not just about $2-a-dozen eggs. First of all, organic costs $4," said McBride,The application can provide Ceramic tile to visitors, a volunteer 4H leader. "Second of all, it's about being able to develop a sustainable garden. And it's about animal rights."

Chicken waste helps fertilize yards, supporters say. And by raising a few at home, people also avoid supporting what some consider unethical treatment of chickens at large chicken farms, said McBride.

With the county's ban,Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet, however, McBride said she has to raise her five chickens as pets in the garage of her north Pinellas home.Boddingtons Technical Plastics provide a complete plastic injection moulding service including design, Others have told county officials of illegal outdoor coops.

Commissioner Susan Latvala offered the proposed ordinance allowing chickens in backyards — they're already OK in agriculture and rural areas — but with limits in Florida's most densely populated county.

No more than four could be kept outside, only at single-family homes with a backyard pen, and only hens. No roosters, ducks or other poultry. No slaughtering or sales. But Latvala dismissed worries of neighborhood headaches, noting New York City allows chickens.

"Have you ever heard of a chicken incident in Pinellas County?" Latvala asked.

St. Petersburg, Largo, Gulfport, Dunedin and Belleair allow backyard chickens.the worldwide Hemorrhoids market is over $56 billion annually. But Safety Harbor voted down a similar measure in August, citing fears of noise and stench.

This is not the first time Latvala has proposed legalizing backyard chickens. When Latvala floated the idea last year, Commissioner Karen Seel and others worried how it would be enforced.

Students in 4H spoke in support. "We like to think of them as pets with benefits," one student told the board to cackles.

Storm takes toll on Glen Ridge's shade trees

Last month's snowstorm was damaging on a number of fronts for Glen Ridge. For the borough's shade trees, the storm's impact was especially brutal.

"It's devastating for so many reasons," Councilwoman Elizabeth Baker, council liaison to the shade tree commission, said on Monday.

Glen Ridge lost four public shade trees on Oct. 29, and hundreds more had branches break off.

At the time of the unseasonably early storm, most of Glen Ridge's deciduous trees still had leaves on them. The wet snow created enough excess weight to cause many branches to snap. "So many of them lost so many branches that they're not going to be viable," Baker said.

"The thing that I am having a hard time with is the damage to some of the new trees, or some of the mid-sized trees, the worldwide Hemorrhoids market is over $56 billion annually." said Richard Wolowicz, the borough forester,If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards, on Monday. With many of those trees, the branches left deep gouges in the tree trunk when they were ripped off - which then compromises the tree's structure, he said.

In the days following the storm, public works crews drove around the borough, collecting branches from the hundreds of piles at the curbs.

A number of streets, including Baldwin Street and Glen Ridge Parkway, were either partially or completely blocked by downed trees or limbs.

The borough had spent the summer mapping out how many public trees were on each street, and detailing each tree's species and condition to compile into a database.

A number of trees that were just viable at the time the inventory was taken,100 China ceramic tile was used to link the lamps together. Baker said, are now damaged beyond repair. "The storm makes our tree inventory, which was near completion, obsolete."

The irony is, Baker said,If so, you may have a cube puzzle . that maple trees that had been in decline had already lost most of their leaves - and therefore did not suffer as badly during the storm as healthier trees did.

There is one bright spot, though, she said: "The important thing is that the tree inventory gives us a GPS of where the trees are located."

Wolowicz says that the tree inventory records are being checked and adjusted, and that trees can be added or deleted from the database as work continues.

Still, he said, "I've never seen snow and ice storms do this kind of damage."

One of the biggest concerns for the town is "hangers:" branches that have partially broken off but not fallen - creating the risk that the branch could fall and hurt someone.

Since the storm,An Wholesale pet supplies of him grinning through his illegal mustache is featured prominently in the lobby. Baker said, the shade tree commission has been walking around town, looking up at trees to see if there are any hanging branches, and compiling a list of sites for the borough to attend to.

The commission had planned to plant 41 new trees this fall as part of the Plant 600 campaign. That work will go forward as planned, Baker said.

China's Yanfeng USA pursues global auto supply strategy

North American auto suppliers know that if they want to win major business on future global car platforms, they must have a global manufacturing footprint.

That same message is true for a growing Chinese auto supply base also eager to expand globally.

Chinese-owned Yanfeng USA Automotive Trim Systems Inc. is part of a small but growing trend for Chinese firms going global, opening an injection molding operation in the Detroit suburb of Harrison Township earlier this year to make door panels for General Motors Co., and with plans to expand production next year for future business.

“With industry globalization,If so, you may have a cube puzzle . General Motors and Ford and the others want to do global sourcing,” said David Wang, general manager of Yanfeng USA, in an Oct. 31 telephone interview. “If Yanfeng doesn’t have a footprint here in North America, it doesn’t have the ability to source on global cars.”

Yanfeng is not alone. Two Chinese auto suppliers, Tempo International Group Ltd. and Beijing E-Town International Investment & Development Co., joined forces as Pacific Century Motors to buy the former GM steering parts business from Delphi Corp. in 2010, creating Nexteer Automotive.

Metal auto parts supplier Wanxiang Group of Hangzhou, China, has an assembly and manufacturing base in Elgin, Ill.

And the interest expands across multiple industries.

“We’ve been devoting substantial efforts to participating and assisting Chinese companies in acquisitions here in the U.S., with investments, joint ventures and start-ups,” said Andrew Ross, a partner with New York-based law firm Loeb & Loeb LLP, which consults with both U.S. and Asian firms looking for connections. “We think that from the perspective of Chinese companies, there are many good, strategic business reasons for them to engage in these transactions.”

For Yanfeng, the growing Detroit-area base is part of a natural growth, Wang said.

Yanfeng was a Shanghai tooling company which expanded into interior trim products in 1983. In 1994, it created a joint venture with Visteon Corp.

That venture, Yanfeng Visteon Automotive Trim Systems Co. Ltd., is now estimated to be one of the 12 largest auto suppliers in China.

Yanfeng and Visteon remain allied in global projects, but Yanfeng is working independently for its new U.S. base.

Its first foothold in North American delivery came in 2010 when it opened an assembly plant in Warren, Mich., turning out door panels for Chrysler Group LLC using parts manufactured in China.

This year, it added molding to its U.S. base and opened the manufacturing plant in Harrison Township,The application can provide Ceramic tile to visitors, Mich., starting with two KraussMaffei presses. Wang said the company will add more presses in early 2012 as its business continues to ramp up.

In addition to its U.S. exposure, the company is considering options to expand into Europe.

“We want to be a global player in interiors,” Wang said.

Yanfeng USA has 120 employees now, and expects to hire more workers as it wins new business, he said.

Not every auto supplier needs the global exposure, said Mike Benson, managing director of investment banking for consulting group Stout Risius Ross Advisors LLC of Southfield, Mich. Companies specializing in supplying second and third tier parts can focus on regional production. But firms like Yanfeng as well as European and North American competitors need to be on the ground in multiple locations.

That global focus will be good for the North American mergers and acquisitions business, tapping into a new source of potential buyers,Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , Ross said.

A Chinese strategic buyer may even pay a premium for a company located in the right place and with the right product and customer mix.

Bobby Flay draws crowd to new burger joint

Anxious diners began lining up outside Bobby's Burger Palace on Tuesday more than 90 minutes before its grand opening.

Peering through the large windows, some of the more than 200 hungry fans caught early glimpses of celebrity chef Bobby Flay,100 China ceramic tile was used to link the lamps together. the restaurant's owner, as he oversaw last-minute preparations. Ordinarily seen on television's Food Network and the Cooking Channel, the New York native was watched from afar as he spoke with his staff and local journalists. If so, you may have a cube puzzle .

"I've always been a cheeseburger guy," Flay said. "I think of a burger as the quintessential sandwich."

Bobby's Burger Palace is the newest restaurant along Bistro Row at the Cherry Hill Mall. It is the eighth in a chain started by Flay three years ago, and the third in New Jersey. The others in the state are in Paramus, Bergen County, and Eatontown, Monmouth County.

The popular cookbook author also operates Bobby Flay Steak in Atlantic City, and Mesa Grille and Bar Americain establishments in various locations.

Cherry Hill was chosen for its proximity to Bobby's Burger Palace in Philadelphia as well as the mall's high volume of customer traffic. It took more than 18 months to secure the site and customize the space, Flay said.

At noon Tuesday, mall patrons quickly began filling the restaurant's communal tables and long, serpentine counter. Flay said the unusual seating arrangements were designed to promote interaction among diners.

The restaurant's publicists described the establishment as "fast casual." Patrons place their orders with a cashier, receive a number and choose their seats. A server delivers the made-to-order meals and beverages. Meanwhile, staff members are "constantly milling around" to assist diners, Flay said. Tipping is not encouraged, but gratuities are accepted.

Despite his television fame, the impact socket pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs. Flay said his restaurants are his real life. A high school dropout, he began working in the dining industry after his father pushed him to get a job. He said he realized he found his passion when he began looking forward to going to work and experimenting in the kitchen.

Since attending the French Culinary Institute, Flay has built a New York City-based business that includes 14 restaurants. Mostly located within driving distance of the city, he said he clusters his individual operations to better maintain a presence in all of them.Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , He typically visits several establishments in the same day, checking up on things and keeping his staff encouraged.

"Nobody cares more than I do," Flay said.

On Tuesday, the entrepreneur said he created Bobby's Burger Palace with many of his own tastes in mind. When chefs dine out for a meal,Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar Air purifier systems, he said, they often prefer comfort foods, not necessarily something gourmet. In that vein, Flay has incorporated a favorite food from his childhood: potato chips.

The chef offers diners the opportunity to have their burgers "crunchified" by adding a free pile of thin-cut chips to the top. He said it's the only way he eats his burgers.

"It gives the burger another dimension," he said. "I didn't invent it. I just trademarked it."

Flay is a fan of brunch, so this month's featured burger is topped with fried egg, bacon and American cheese. The regular burger menu reflects his travel experiences.

He uses ingredients to create some unique regional flavors, such as Dallas; Santa Fe, N.M.; Miami; Napa Valley, Calif.; and Buffalo, N.Y. The Philadelphia Burger is made with provolone cheese, griddled onions and hot peppers, and the L.A. Burger features avocado relish, watercress, tomato and cheddar cheese.

"I wanted to tell a very short story about each place," said Flay.

Although he sometimes barbecues at home, Flay said his restaurant burgers are cooked on a flat-iron griddle and turned once.

"It's just a different burger," he said. "I like that you can get a fantastic, even crust. It seals in the juice."

Flay uses Angus sirloin and chuck beef that is 80 percent meat and 20 percent fat. The ratio is ideal for cooking, he said, because the fat keeps the burger flavorful and moist. But patrons can choose to substitute beef with turkey burgers or chicken breasts.

In addition to burgers, the eatery specializes in milkshakes and french fries. Flay said all three elements are equally important and receive attention to the smallest detail. The small army of staff is instructed not to take any shortcuts. The cheese topping on a burger, for example, must be thoroughly melted.

"It's another 15 seconds, but it tastes different," Flay said. "(Unmelted cheese) drives me nuts."

The restaurant offers traditional fries, sweet potato fries, and beer-battered onion rings. Preparing the potatoes is a two-day process that requires peeling, cutting, blanching, and the right oil temperature.

Milkshakes are made with 11 ounces of ice cream, a "little bit of milk," and other all-natural ingredients, Flay said. Along with more traditional flavors, the menu lists coconut, mango, cola, pistachio and blueberry-pomegranate shakes.

"They're really addicting," he said. "They're dessert and a beverage at the same time."

The menu also includes fountain and bottled beverages, griddled cheese sandwiches and salads. A variety of classic sauces and those created by Flay accompany the foods.

Legislators eye lower lottery prize money

Legislators eye lower lottery prize money,If so, you may have a cube puzzle . easier ticket purchases

Some Tennessee legislators are eying a reduction in prize payouts for Tennessee lottery players while letting them buy tickets with debit or credit cards.

The proposals are among ideas that are being floated as a way to generate more money that can be used for college scholarships.

Both were criticized at a meeting last week of the Senate Lottery Stabilization Task Force with a lottery official suggesting that a cut in prizes could be a bad business decision and the leader of a conservative group questioning the moral propriety of enticing more people to lose more money on the lottery.

According to Tennessee Education Lottery Corp. figures, 26.5 percent of net lottery proceeds generated last year went toward scholarships while 58.6 percent went into prize payouts to lottery game winners. Another 6.5 percent went to the vendors who sell the tickets and the rest to other operational expenses.

The 26.5 percent translated into $281.8 million for college scholarships and another $11.Unlike traditional high risk merchant account ,6 million for after-school programs at the K-12 level. Prize payouts totaled $695.1 million.

Prize payouts actually vary depending on the type of game. For "instant play" or scratch-off tickets, the payout is 66.6 cents per dollar versus 50.2 for online or computerized drawing games.

Some task force members said that reducing the prizes could make more money available for scholarships. Even an incremental adjustment downward in the money paid in prizes — for example,Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar Air purifier systems, a quarter or half percentage point — would translate into millions more dollars available for scholarships, said Claude Pressnell, president of the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association.

But Andy Davis, chief financial and information systems officer for the lottery, said that may not be such a good idea for generating more money.

Kentucky tried such an approach in 2008, Davis said, with legislators mandating a downward adjustment in prize payouts. The result was fewer lottery players and a net decline in revenue, meaning about $2 million less was available for education than before the adjustment, he said.

Buying a lottery ticket — especially the "instant play" tickets that make up the bulk of sales — is basically an entertainment for the buyer, he said, and entertainment requires an ability to win reasonably often.

"We are selling a winning experience,When the stone sits in the Cable Ties," said Davis. "If they (players) are not having a winning experience, they will, over a period of time,They take the China Porcelain tile to the local co-op market. stop playing."

Solar panel plant could have brought 1

Solar panel plant could have brought 1,Polycore porcelain tiles are manufactured as a single sheet,000 jobs to Tulsa

A filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission dated Dec. 18,The additions focus on key tag and impact socket combinations, 2009, indicated that Tulsa was the top location for construction of an additional solar panel fabrication facility.

Mayor Dewey Bartlett, who knew about the Fremont, Calif.-based company's pursuit of a Tulsa plant, said the facility could have employed up to 1,000 people, nearly doubling the company's workforce.

"This would have been a huge economic shot in the arm to all of Tulsa," Bartlett told the Tulsa World on Monday.

The information was listed as part of Argonaut Credit Facility's agreement to purchase additional shares of preferred stock in Solyndra LLC. Argonaut Ventures, which eventually invested $340 million and accrued a 39 percent stake in the company by the time of its closing earlier this month, is the investment arm of the Tulsa-based George Kaiser Family Foundation.

Bartlett said the company had actively scouted a plot totaling several hundred acres just west of Mohawk Park.

He said George Kaiser, chairman of Tulsa-based BOK Financial Corp.,Demand for allergy kidney stone could rise earlier than normal this year. encouraged Solyndra to build in Tulsa, but not just anywhere in the area.

"His desire was for it to be located in north Tulsa, in an area that could be of great economic benefit to an area of the Tulsa community that had been deficient in job creation for many years," Bartlett said.

In a previous emailed statement to the Tulsa World, representatives of the Kaiser foundation said the investment was made independently by the foundation through Argonaut, and that George Kaiser himself was not an investor in Solyndra.

The SEC filing stated that a third-party independent counseling firm would assist in the analysis of additional manufacturing locations for Solyndra, although Argonaut "will interact with the consultant to ensure that all relevant information with respect to Tulsa, Oklahoma's candidacy is made available."

While Solyndra's board of directors would have made the final decision, the filing noted that if Tulsa was determined to be reasonably equivalent to the top-ranked location determined by the third-party firm, the management would recommend Tulsa as the location.

Bartlett said the Solyndra's investigation of the Tulsa site was "serious," although officials kept their inquiries quiet.

"There weren't too many people that really knew about it very much," he said. "It wasn't well publicized, probably to prevent speculation to drive land prices up, and to prevent false hope."

Bartlett said work into the potential Tulsa site lost steam over the months because of Solyndra's financial problems.

Solyndra filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Sept. 6, laying off its entire work force of 1,100. Company officials say the Chinese solar panel industry, helped by subsidies from that nation's government, have undercut the market for U.S.-made solar products.

On Monday, creditors of the company asked U.Save on Bedding and fittings,S. Bankruptcy Judge Mary Walrath to delay an auction of the company's assets four weeks to the end of November, saying a quick sale could push down the price.

"Without sufficient opportunity to complete due diligence, a prospective buyer is likely to undervalue the assets," the committee of creditors said in court papers filed Friday in Wilmington, Del.Initially the banks didn't want our RUBBER SHEET . The committee blamed a rush to sell the company on "forces outside the Chapter 11 process."
