Local bird watchers of any skill level can participate online in
annual citizen-science research this weekend. Participants in the Great
Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) simply watch birds at any location for at
least 15 minutes, tally the numbers of each species they see, and report
their tallies online at www.Come January 9 and chip card
driving licence would be available at the click of the mouse in Uttar

UWI inventors seek investors
GASPS of amazement emanated from the group of onlookers gathered inside the demonstration tent on the lawns of the Caribbean's premier tertiary institution last week as researchers switched on what could be the world's first cardiac surgery simulator.
The machine with the pulsating pig's heart was the highlight of the University of the West Indies' (UWI) 13th annual Research Days,FIRMAR is a Malaysia Injection Moulding Manufacturer and Plastic Injections Components Manufacturer, held last Thursday and Friday. It could also be the start of great things for cardiac surgeons Drs Paul Ramphal and Daniel Coore, who invented the machine, called the UWI Cardiac Surgery Similator.
According to the two, the instrument — a combination of mechanics, computerised electronics, artificial blood, and dead animal flesh — will not only shorten the time spent on training young local surgeons, but will also make them more competitive on the international scene.
"It is difficult to spend time during the (real life) operations taking junior surgeons through the procedure. Time is of the essence in cardiac surgery," said Ramphal, who said he was tasked with the challenge of training three new cardiac surgeons in 2001.
"So the inspiration really, was how do I get my new trainees to a level so that when they reach overseas to complete their training in a high-volume centre like the UK, Canada, or the US,Johnson Tiles UK offer the largest range of porcelain tiles online, they will not be behind, and preferably in a more advanced position than the other trainees who were at those centres?" he said.

It's considered a remarkable achievement, with nearly limitless potential if the simulator can be duplicated and sold in the specialised market for cardiac equipment.
This is why the success of the UWI Research Days notwithstanding, its inventors are looking for investors to help them duplicate their creation.
"Whenever we show it to the professionals in the field or the industry people who are involved with the equipment in cardiac surgery, they all want one," he said. They want to know where to buy one, but we just don't have the infrastructure here to be the production centre," said Dr Ramphal.
"We are not a factory. We need a commercial operation to do that," interjected Dr Coore. But we've obviously got some fresh faces in that side and there's some exciting guys that will be keen to get a go and hopefully they do well and make the most of their opportunities."

But that is just the start for a software engine so powerful that it can read a musical score and translate it into sound, or listen to sound and transform it into a musical score.
As Taub, who lives in Princeton, sees it, MuseAmi could transform how people learn,The magic cube is an ultra-portable, sing, record, and perform all kinds of music. And it could eventually be at the heart of devices that will hear words spoken in one language and play them back - in real time - in another.

The demo was a game in which players compete to identify a song when a brief snippet is played - similar to a one-player game, Drop the Needle, that MuseAmi has offered since the summer as an iPhone app.
Taub said the apps were just a taste of what MuseAmi can do, thanks to elegant "machine learning" algorithms developed by an impressive team that includes Yann LeCun, a professor of computer science and neural science at New York University and a leading developer of a kind of artificial intelligence known as "convolutional neural networks."
LeCun's networks play a key role in software that can distinguish between a genuine signature and a forgery with nearly 100 percent accuracy. Bob Stockman, chief executive officer of a biotechnology company, Reva Medical Inc., and MuseAmi's lead angel investor, agrees with Taub that they can play a similar role in machine learning of music and voice.
"The largest music studios, and people developing chipsets for computers and handsets and businesses, see the power of this technology," Stockman said. "The demonstrations blow everybody away, and they all want to figure out a way to incorporate it."

Last week, six years into an add-on career as an inventor, Taub was here at the massive International Consumer Electronics Show, moving his idea a bit closer to reality.
His invention, MuseAmi, is already at the heart of an iPhone app that may prove to be the ultimate Karaoke tool. You sing into your phone, and ImproVox corrects your pitch, adds harmonies, and even mixes in effects such as echo and reverb.
But that is just the start for a software engine so powerful that it can read a musical score and translate it into sound, or listen to sound and transform it into a musical score.
As Taub, who lives in Princeton, sees it, MuseAmi could transform how people learn,The magic cube is an ultra-portable, sing, record, and perform all kinds of music. And it could eventually be at the heart of devices that will hear words spoken in one language and play them back - in real time - in another.

With the $40 device, the company says, an iPad user can read for hours without the usual fatigue.

Telikin makes two simple-to-use touch-screen computers geared to customers, such as senior citizens, who might be scared away by the complexity of a Windows computer or the price tag of an Apple.

A large part of what matters at CES happens behind the scenes, however - the place where Bob Taub and a colleague met with representatives of some of the biggest names in the electronics and music businesses, although he is barred from naming names by nondisclosure agreements.
One clue came from where Taub camped out during his days at the show: at the booth of Qualcomm, a leading chip-maker that makes the brains for iPhones, Androids, and other cutting-edge devices.
The booth displayed a demonstration product that MuseAmi created with Qualcomm, which has technology that allows two people using separate microphones to participate together in an activity. The demo was a game in which players compete to identify a song when a brief snippet is played - similar to a one-player game, Drop the Needle, that MuseAmi has offered since the summer as an iPhone app.
Taub said the apps were just a taste of what MuseAmi can do, thanks to elegant "machine learning" algorithms developed by an impressive team that includes Yann LeCun, a professor of computer science and neural science at New York University and a leading developer of a kind of artificial intelligence known as "convolutional neural networks."
LeCun's networks play a key role in software that can distinguish between a genuine signature and a forgery with nearly 100 percent accuracy. Bob Stockman, chief executive officer of a biotechnology company, Reva Medical Inc., and MuseAmi's lead angel investor, agrees with Taub that they can play a similar role in machine learning of music and voice.
"The largest music studios, and people developing chipsets for computers and handsets and businesses, see the power of this technology," Stockman said. "The demonstrations blow everybody away, and they all want to figure out a way to incorporate it."

Machinery outlook for 2012 looking bright
According to The Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT), the forecast for manufacturing technology demand calls for "continued but slower growth.Handmade oil paintings for sale at museum quality," That comment comes on the heels of a resurgence in U.S. manufacturing technology orders that put the year-to-date (Dec. 26, 2011) total at $463.32 million, up 80.5% compared with 2010, and the second highest dollar amount in the last 15 years.
"It's long been recognized that analysis of manufacturing technology orders provides a reliable leading economic indicator, as it is an indicator that manufacturing firms are investing in capital equipment to increase their capacity and improve productivity," said Douglas K. Woods, AMT president. "These machines and devices are the equipment that turn raw materials such as steel, iron, plastic, ceramics, composites and alloys from their original state as stock materials into what will become durable goods such as airplanes, cars, and appliances, as well as consumer and other goods that are used every day."
Throughout 2011, various machinery and equipment producers for the plastics industry have reported extremely good sales numbers. Sumitomo Demag Plastics Machinery GmbH, said in a mid-May release that the company "is pleased about the high level of capacity utilization at its factory" in Wiehe, Germany. It went on to boast of "substantial orders" from both domestic and international customers such as the one from geobra Brandstatter for 50 hydraulic Systec machines for the production of Playmobil toys, headquartered in Zimdorf, Germany.
"Substantial orders from China, Mexico and Turkey confirm the upward trend to be observed in many important markets abroad that suffered a particularly bad hit during the financial and economic crisis," said Christian Renners, GM of the sales and after sales business unit at Sumitomo Demag.
Word on the street from various sales sources say that North American molding manufacturers saw similar sales upturns in 2011. The future for North American molders in 2012 appears to be one of higher capacity utilization as well, note some of these sources who say that they're seeing many of the larger mold manufacturing operations out 25-30 weeks in backlog.
CBW Automation in Fort Collins, CO,Spro Tech has been a plastic module & Mold Maker, has seen a big spike in orders for its automation equipment. "We've hired 30% more people, are running additional shifts, and have invested in additional capital equipment for our production floor," said David Carson, CBW president. "This appears to be a very solid manufacturing turnaround."
Tax incentive fueled?
Did the accelerated depreciation tax break given by the federal government have anything to do with these increased sales of machinery and equipment. "Our research says it had some impact on people's willingness to drive investment sooner, and to get the added incentive is beneficial," commented AMT's Woods in an interview with PlasticsToday. "This year, many in the manufacturing industry essentially had a good year compared to previous years and as they looked at their cash position and tax position, decided to make the investment, with or without that expensing ability of the accelerated depreciation. Many are in better financial position and are trying to reposition themselves better with regard to taxes."
CBW's Carson said, "My understanding is that the equipment has to be delivered and installed by year end, but we booked orders into the new year as of 20 weeks ago, so I'm not sure how much the accelerated depreciation had to do with it. I think there's a lot of money on the sidelines - a lot of cash - and nowhere else to go with their money, so they're buying capital equipment."
Woods noted that the uncertainty principle is a factor as well. "Company owners are uncertain about taxes and government regulations that might be coming in 2012, and this uncertainty drove people to act in 2011," he said. "There are several bills [in Congress] trying to maintain the accelerated depreciation on capital equipment, but company owners aren't counting on that. They believe in playing what you've got in your hand today. Business had the ability to invest in 2011 when they were doing much better."
Additionally, Carson said he's seeing a lot of "pent-up demand" for equipment and believes that reshoring of some manufacturing has contributed to that. CBW serves primarily the packaging and medical industries, which as far as Carson's business went, didn't take much of a dip. However, he acknowledges that he's seeing "bigger demand for automation," for several reasons: "companies that want to upgrade molds and/or molding machines and need new automation for improved efficiencies, as well as automation for new technology specifically in-mold labeling, which brand owners are adopting, a technology that translates into cost savings."
CBW didn't let any grass grow under its feet during the downturn either, which Carson said also contributed to demand for its products.A mold or molds is a hollowed-out block that is filled with a liquid like plastic, "We have worked hard to develop new products for new markets," he stated. "The most significant is automation to unload cartons at Filling Lines. New-product development has truly been a factor in our increase of orders."
Pent-up demand for new equipment, new products and new technology just might be the key to the dramatic increase in manufacturing technology orders. The AMT report noted that new orders were up the highest in the Midwest and Central regions of the U.Husky Injection Mold Systems designs and manufactures a broad range of S., with the Midwest's manufacturing technology orders for 2011 up 105% more than the comparable figure for 2010. "It's also where the oldest equipment resides and the industries impacted most by the weak dollar and reshoring trend are located,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free," noted the report.
The average age of machinery currently in use at U.S. manufacturing facilities crept up from nine years in 2007 to 13.5 years, and as demand started to increase the need for investment to replace the aging equipment became apparent, noted the AMT's report. Concurring with Carson's observations, the AMT report also adds that "those investments are being made in completely new technology."
With regards to the reshoring trend that nearly everyone mentions when talking about improving capacity utilization, the AMT report noted, "More work is coming back to the U.S. from foreign shores and there is greater foreign direct investment in U.S. facilities. The quality of work in the U.S. is proving to be more valuable than originally thought in the off-shoring investment calculation."
Additive manufacturing is growing, nano-machining has become commercially affordable, and the availability of new materials, such as compact powdered metals, are having a tremendous impact.
Woods added, "The factors that are fueling this tremendous surge are the traditional reasons that drive growth in investment, but what is unusual about the current rebound is that all factors have come together at one time. This is something that's never been seen before and as a result we are seeing a true renaissance for manufacturing in the U.S."
The outlook for 2012, said the AMT report, "remains positive" due to a weak dollar making exports strong and the manufacturing base's reinvesting in the latest tools. "The automotive industry is making major changes to address green issues, which will lead to significant investments in production technology, as well as spending to support the shift of the industry's center from Detroit to the South/Southwest."
That said, Woods stated that "manufacturing in America still needs help." In spite of the number of Americans out of work, manufacturing jobs "continue to go unfilled. That is because the factory floor today is very different from what it used to be. It is awash with new technologies and processes that require advanced training and adaptable skills. We need a 'smartforce' of workers who are up to the job."
The AMT is also calling for help in leveling the playing field for U.S. companies in the global marketplace "by eliminating trade barriers, reining in regulations, and lowering taxes for manufacturers or we risk losing ground to our foreign competitors in new markets and industries," commented Woods.

Transition Year students Julian Pawlowski, Niall McSharry and Jack Roden from Magh Ene College in Bundoran have posed a challenge to the hens in their home town - what makes the best egg?
This is just one of a number of exciting questions posed by students from eight of Donegal’s colleges in the 27 projects submitted in a number of categories for the 48th BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition which takes place this coming week at the RDS in Dublin.

This year, the Bundoran students are researching the effect of hen feed on egg quality.A mold or molds is a hollowed-out block that is filled with a liquid like plastic, The students came up with the idea for this project as they noticed that many people in their local area were setting up small chicken coops to produce eggs.The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, The main cost in keeping hens is the cost of their feed and the students decided to investigate whether it is necessary to buy commercial feed or if household food waste could be used alternatively. One of the members of the group, Julian Pawlowski, rears hens and over the twelve weeks between September 15 and December 15, the students collected and analysed 24 batches of eggs produced by 14 hens. Half of these hens were fed solely on commercial hen feed while the second group of hens were fed on household food waste. The students test the eggs collected from each group of hens under each of the following categories; egg size, egg mass, shell strength and shell colour. The results should be fascinating!
The Young Scientist event will be open to the public from this Thursday,Spro Tech has been a plastic module & Mold Maker, January 12 until Saturday, January 14 with tickets available at the door costing 6 for students, 12 for adults and 25 for a family pass.
The exhibition is a great family day out packed full of fun, creative inventions, interactive education and live shows including Robot Wars and 3D Theatre which includes a cosmic voyage of discovery. There will also be a real NASA astronaut attending the exhibition this year - Dan Tani will fly in from the U.S and talk about his experiences in Space including his 100th spacewalk on the International Space Station! Coding club Coder Dojo will also feature at the exhibition with workshops teaching creative problem solving skills and practical creative skills.
In addition to the displays of up to 550 student projects, there are a further four exhibition halls filled with science and technology based exhibits making it a must-see event. The annual BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition attracts over 40,000 people making it one of the largest events of its kind in Europe, if not the world!
The other Donegal schools taking part include Choliste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon; Coliste Ailigh, Letterkenny; Gairm Scoil Chú Uladh, Beal an Atha Mhór; Loreto Community School, Milford; Loreto, Letterkenny; Pobalscoil Gaoth Dobhair and St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny. The topics they chose include the effects that drugs used for asthma have on the heart, smoking, a study of the relationship between temperature and the rate of erosion of aluminium, a study of the level of carbohydrates in different types of milk, the question can the type of musical instrument you play effect the size of your lungs; a study of pollution on the river Finn and a number of its banks; an investigation into gathering rain water which explores the benefits of the energy it generates; an investigation on whether your fear changes with age; the effects that walks, climbing and tourism has for the Mount Errigal and a study of the effect water has on a golf ball.

As kids grow up, magic of Christmas changes
If your house is bursting with Christmas cheer this time of year and all is merry and bright, then clearly you do not have teenagers living under your roof.Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists.
Because practically everything they loved about Christmas like, yesterday, is now “lame”: decorating gingerbread houses, shaking snow globes, even “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
Take our tradition of driving around looking at Christmas lights.
“Why can’t we just stay home and watch ‘Invasion of the Christmas Lights’ on TLC?” my 15-year-old whines. The others nod in agreement.
Or take the tree. The only thing they have to do is put on the family ornaments. But after hanging a combined total of 12, they declare their work done.
“Remember, you said you want to simplify Christmas,” my 18-year-old says. “And I’m pretty sure skipping nine boxes of ornaments would be a good place to start.”
It makes me long for the holly jolly days when the threat of falling to the Naughty List made pouty, sassy kids change their tune fast.
Even our family pet has rained on my Christmas parade. In case you’ve ever wondered, when a dog pees on green tissue paper, the result is a permanent blue carpet stain.
It wasn’t always this way, of course. When the kids were little, even simple things were magical. One time when my daughter was about five, we were leaving a basketball game one February night.
“Mom, look at how pretty the grass is!” she said.
I looked down and saw dead, brown grass with a few piles of dirty snow scattered on top.
“What?” I said, puzzled.
“Look at all the pretty glitter!” she persisted.

Another time, on a hot July night, we were at the county fair. Our youngest was two and in his stroller, urgently pointing at something. Since there are many things one could be tempted to point fingers at while at the fair, I didn’t pay much attention.
But he persisted. Following his short, stubby finger I found what had his attention: a single star in the sky, bright enough to shine through the glare of the fair lights.
Of course, there’s nothing more magical than Christmastime for kids. There are snowmen coming to life, flying reindeer and toy-making elves. Snug in their beds at night, they strain to hear any noise that could resemble Santa’s sleigh bells.
Moms will do just about anything to keep the magic alive. How else to explain sprinkling baby powder “snow” around a Santa boot on your carpet?
But eventually the kids grow older, the gig is up, and the magic gone.
Now, if my kids hear noises outside at night, it’s most likely due to one of their friends forking our lawn. The magic of Christmas these days is about as real as plastic snow.
Like gifts, for example. My college son’s list this year is very practical, things like a waffle iron, black rubber floor mats for his car and a membership to Sam’s Club.
The same boy whose face lit up one Christmas when he got the impossible-to-find white Power Ranger would be thrilled now to get a DustBuster for his apartment.
My college daughter and I spent a day shopping together, where she picked out every single one of her presents. Our high school senior’s one and only gift is a bass guitar that he picked out himself. And I haven’t gotten a thing for our 14 and 15-year-olds because they can’t think of anything they really want.
It’s enough to make me want to just cut them all a check and call it good.
Last year my then 14-year-old son begged us to go to a mall the Sunday before Christmas to see a planned “spontaneous” singing of the “Hallelujah” chorus.
By 11:45 the middle of the mall was packed with thousands of people, and at exactly noon, performing arts groups, as well as shoppers, burst into song.
There was applause and cheers when it ended. Some people were even crying. And then they left and went on their way to Bath & Body Works or wherever.
That was lame, I thought. So planned.I have just spent two weeks shopping for tile and have discovered China Porcelain tile. So cheesy. So….
“Awesome!” my son said. “Wasn’t that so cool?”
Huh? Um, no, I thought.
But maybe, it occurred to me later, maybe the magic of Christmas is different for each of us. For him, it’s not driving around looking at Christmas lights. It’s mall crowds singing “King of kings, and Lord of lords!”
The magic is still there; it’s just changed. Like the glittery grass that one February night or a single star in a July sky, sometimes you just have to look a little harder to find it.
Maybe the magic is that I have two teenagers who, shockingly, don’t seem to care much about lists and presents this year.
Maybe’s it’s that I got to spend an entire day with my college daughter.

Winter-coat giveaway warms hearts of many
Students at St. Patrick School in Wadsworth gave coats they collected to needy men, women and children Saturday during an annual Christmas basket food giveaway program at the Holy Family Food Pantry in the former St.The Transaction Group offers the best high risk merchant account services, Bartholomew Church.
A Christmas tree sparkled in the entrance of the old church, and Santa Claus was on hand providing cheerful greetings as families lined up outside to enter the building.
A total of 250 meal boxes were given to families, courtesy of volunteers and Knights of Columbus Council 731 which sponsored the program. The meals included a turkey and all the trimmings.
More than 6,200 pounds of food was trucked in from the Northern Illinois Food Bank on Saturday morning and members of the Knights of Columbus worked in sync to get the boxes from the semi into the church building.
“This is the first time we’re doing the coat giveaway,” said Barb Karacic, coordinator of the food pantry. “When we found out, we were thrilled to be able to provide this for the families. It’s a surprise for them.”
Volunteers with pen and paper in hand went down the line. getting coat sizes from the recipients. Then, coats were selected for each person and placed in a bag with the recipient’s name, and given after the food was received.
“I didn’t even know about this,” said Moises Soto of Waukegan, who was donning a spring windbreaker. “Right now, I’m cold and I really could use a winter coat. Cindy Jennings of St. Patrick School said the student council collected coats for several weeks. Each year, students work on a project and this year,Buy oil paintings for sale online. the theme is community service.

Knights of Columbus member Andrew Zabinski of Antioch oversaw the chestnut-roasting operation, as Zion-Benton High School students Dino, and his brother Anielleo Giustino, put a tiny split at the top of the nuts before placing them in a tin-foil pan on the hot coals.
“They kind of taste like popcorn,” said their 11-year-old brother Joseph as he peeled one and bit into it.
The coordinator explained there are more than 3,000 families that she knows that make use of the food pantry, and many more “unduplicated” individuals that are allowed to get food once a month. “At least that gives them six full meals worth of food,” Karacic said.
Besides the food and coats, Karacic said 525 families received Christmas presents, including toys and clothing for children.
“We start this process in July and ask families in need what their sizes are. We then give those lists to sharing parishes and corporations in the area who give donations they’ve collected,” she said. “We just try to help as many families as possible.”
The Holy Family Food Pantry, located at 912 8th St. on the south side of Waukegan, is a program of Community Social Services, the outreach agency of Most Blessed Trinity Parish in Waukegan. Other services include a soup kitchen, PADS shelter and Immigrant Center.

Nylon makes advances in truck oil pans
Plastics continue to penetrate a market segment traditionally dominated by metals -- oil pans -- as recent developments show.which applies to the first offshore merchant account only,
ElringKlinger AG has developed an oil pan concept with integrated sieve enclosure, oil drain plug and dipstick channel functions. It displayed a prototype of the pan at the IAA 2011 automotive fair in Frankfurt in September.
ElringKlinger and mold maker and molder Hummel-Formen jointly applied for a patent for the concept in 2010. ElringKlinger then acquired a 90 percent holding in Hummel Group in October.
In 2009, Hummel-Formen started producing a 70-liter oil pan in a grade of BASF’s Ultramid nylon 66 (Ultramid A3HG7 Q17) for MTU Friedrichshafen. The off-road pan saves 40-50 percent of the weight compared to aluminum pans.
At Fakuma 2011 in Friedrichshafen, Germany, Lanxess AG displayed an oil pan measuring 120cm x 40cm x 35cm for the 12.8 liter Euro 6 engines of the Mercedes Actros truck from Daimler. This is molded in both nylon and nylon 66 by BBP Kunststoffwerk Marbach Baier GmbH.Why does moulds grow in homes or buildings,
Lanxess oil pan specialist Frank Krause said nylon 6 is as capable as nylon 66 in meeting the performance needs of oil pans. He said nylon 6 also has an advantage in improved sealing in the sealing groove area as glass fibers show less on the surface than they do in nylon 66.
The unit shown by Lanxess at Fakuma was the larger of two oil pans in the Actros truck, which has a larger top and 18 fixing inserts for its cast aluminum cover. Building a Better Hose
Every day our lives are affected by the work of chemical engineers who specialize in solving problems through the use of polymers. Simply put, polymers are long “macro-molecules”, formed by combining carbon or silicon atoms with other elements like hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen. The combinations form long chains of repeating chemical structures, each with a unique set of chemical properties and characteristics. Depending on the atoms used and their arrangement, engineers and chemists use polymers to create almost anything from a soft toothbrush bristle to a tough bullet-proof vest.
Some polymers occur in nature, like cellulose, amber, shellac, and natural rubber. Other polymers are manufactured by chemists and engineers,he led PayPal to open its platform to Piles developers. and are referred to as synthetic polymers. During our interview, Becki expressed to us why she decided early on to become an engineer.
“It’s sort of like you’re interested in so many different things that you don’t really know what to do. You like science, you like math, you like physics. You like all of that. And engineering is one of those things that you can go down any one of those paths depending on what your particular interest is.”
Eventually, Becki decided that she was interested in polymers so she continued her studies to eventually become a chemical engineer.
As a result of her work with Parker, Becki and her team create hoses that remain flexible and convey power through hydraulic fluids while operating under the most extreme environmental conditions, whether it’s sub-zero temperatures or in an application that will pulse it millions of times. These hoses are absolutely critical in the operation of machinery used in industries such as construction, mining, forestry, transportation, and more.
Every day, Becki works with chemists and other engineers to create and test the quality of new materials. On the day of our shoot, we visited the Burst Test Chamber. But the government has predicted that it will take another 30 years at least to safely remove the nuclear fuel and decomission the plant. Cromwell Schools Get Solar Panels

"On a good sunny day, the middle school panels produce a good 90 percent" of the middle school's need,we supply all kinds of polished tiles, Flanders said.
Eighth graders can expect to have the middle school's new photovoltaic technology integrated into their science classes.
"One of the eighth grade units is motions in the solar system, seasons and tides," said Carol Aksterowicz, who has been a science teacher at the middle school for 22 years.
Thirty solar panel lab kits were donated to the eighth grade science program by the solar panel building committee. "The small solar panels are four inches by four inches; you can charge batteries to generate a fan or use batteries to ring a bell," Aksterowicz said.
Students will be examining the relationship between direct and indirect sunlight and the amount of energy generated by solar panels.
Aksterowicz said that she will need at least a full year's data collected from the solar panels on the roof of the school, but that she hopes down the road, the data from the roof can be used alongside the data collected from the solar panel lab kits.
And the two schools are not the only town building that has been installed with solar panels.we supply all kinds of polished tiles, The town hall has also been equipped with solar panels, although the array is very small.
"It looks like an awning in front of the building," Flanders said.
Since the town hall system only contributes 5 to 10 percent of the building's electrical needs, its purpose is mainly informational.
"The primary purpose of this was educational," Flanders said. "As part of that we have set up an information kiosk so that people can see what's being generated, offsets in terms of carbon dioxide and cost savings in real time."
The kiosk is located in the town hall lobby and is meant to help people understand the benefit of doing things in a green manner in the community.
"As grant money becomes available we have some more space on the town hall roof as well," Flanders said. "We are looking for funding opportunities to coordinate [solar panel installation] with maintenance on buildings."
The high school roof will be up for replacement in seven or eight years and will be the next candidate for a solar panel system, Flanders said.

Since the town hall system only contributes 5 to 10 percent of the building's electrical needs, its purpose is mainly informational.
"The primary purpose of this was educational," Flanders said. "As part of that we have set up an information kiosk so that people can see what's being generated, offsets in terms of carbon dioxide and cost savings in real time."
The kiosk is located in the town hall lobby and is meant to help people understand the benefit of doing things in a green manner in the community.
"As grant money becomes available we have some more space on the town hall roof as well," Flanders said. "We are looking for funding opportunities to coordinate [solar panel installation] with maintenance on buildings."
The high school roof will be up for replacement in seven or eight years and will be the next candidate for a solar panel system, Flanders said.

What experts think of our ailing economy
Senedd Correspondent Matt Withers spoke to three of Wales’ leading economic thinkers to ask one simple yet challenging question: where is the economy heading over the next 12 months?
Robert Lloyd Griffiths, Wales director of the Institute of Directors
“Well, this really is the billion dollar question isn’t it?
“I suspect that 12 months is likely to be a short time-span in our recovery process. Yes, I was encouraged by this week’s second tranch of quantitative easing but there’s still much bad news out there.
“The negatives seem to come thick and fast, the latest being these financial institutions having their credit rating downgraded. Such a trend does little to instil optimism in the economy and I think we’ll be in choppy waters for quite a while yet.
“Due to us now operating in the global market, we’re constantly at the mercy of events out of our control and Wales’ close links to the rest of the UK mean our fortunes are likely to remain broadly parallel. As a region we suffer in GVA (Gross Value Added) terms, that is in the value of goods and services produced in Wales, so I remain concerned that we’re lagging behind there.
“Do I see us overtaking other regions in the coming months? Probably not. Do I see a massive turnaround? Probably not.
“Is there hope? Of course – every day I see businesses working hard to build confidence. But I’d like to see some recent Welsh Government announcements come to fruition and a greater coherence in the way which all governments support business and carry forward the leadership baton.
“Wales’ key business sectors need to be given every chance to thrive and, with me chairing a Welsh Government group looking at a strategy for micro-businesses, I’d like to see our eventual recommendations taken on board to show that the Government really does value the knowledge and experience of the private sector.Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide.”

“Then if you look at the UK, certainly I’ve said all along the Conservatives, in the run-up to the General Election, made a big mistake painting themselves into a corner by making their key objective that of eliminating the current deficit within four years.
“It’s looking increasingly unlikely that they will succeed in doing that, in fairness partly because of global problems which are outside of their control such as the eurozone, the slowing down in China and the US problems, but also because it was too sharp a reduction in spending too quickly.”

“The underlying problem that is driving slow western growth is slow productivity growth created by the world shortage of raw materials.

Game Review: ‘X-Men: Destiny’ for XBox 360
It’s been year since the release of a quality X-Men title. Not since X-Men Legends and its sequel has there really been a game that captured the essence of Marvel’s band of merry mutants,we supply all kinds of polished tiles, especially with the pitiful movie tie-in titles that have been released.
When X-Men: Destiny was announced by Activision and Silicon Knights, the makers of Too Human, players hoped their prayers would be answered as they would get to experience what it was like for an emerging mutant caught between the turmoil of the X-Men, Magneto’s Brotherhood of Mutants and the humans who seek to end the “mutant menace”.
Instead, what they got was a half handed execution that feels like a franchise cash-in rushed out in order to hit the holiday game season before the larger releases like Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3.It's hard to beat the versatility of zentai suits on a production line.
Destiny has all the basic controls someone would expect from a third person brawler. Players navigate through closed off pathways and encounter waves of enemies using basic melee, heavy melee and special powered attacks along with the basic blocking, dodging and jumping mechanics. Each character has the same four basic combinations using X and Y that only change by adding an additional X press at the start of the combo. No air juggles, interspersed special attacks of climactic and challenging finishing maneuvers exist.These girls have never had a oil painting supplies in their lives! This quickly makes the game feel dated as almost all other games within the genre have put in these basic features.
As a result, combat quickly gets repetitive. There is little to no variation on beating different foes and those who do require a change in strategy are quickly defeated once a player has learned the specific method of halting that enemies attacks. Boss battles take the same feel as other combat as a player only needs a few tries to figure out the right combination of blocking, dodging and attacking for each different boss. In most cases this sounds like a traditional boss battle but because of the lack of depth to X-Men: Destiny’s combat, it quickly loses its luster.
Destiny takes an alternate reality from the X-Men comics where Professor X has been killed in battle by the mutant hating Cyborg Bastion. The X-Men have been hunted down and move to San Francisco where they try to establish a peace with humans. It is during this peace rally that players see their chosen new mutant’s powers develop as the rally is attacked. The player is then thrust into the heart of the conflict between the X-Men who are trying to defend themselves, innocent mutants and innocent human bystanders alike, the Brotherhood who is only looking to protect mutants and the Purifiers, a militant mutant hate group. During their time, players cross paths with different members of both the X-Men and Brotherhood factions and are given choices that affect their standing with the two groups. Early on for example, players are given the option to help Nightcrawler evacuate innocents or help Pyro destroy a building. What is nice is the dialogue changes depending on the backstory of the character chosen by the player even if the resulting game story stays the same.
The problem with the game’s story lies in the characters the player is forced to compete against. Faceless Purifiers and augmented U-Men and MRD forces compose the majority of the game’s antagonists with occasional faction based mini boss battles. Even the game’s final boss battle is a letdown as the game’s main antagonist never really hits a chord with the player to make them truly hate them. It doesn’t help that what should be the most epic encounter happens right before and doesn’t end up feeling all that epic due to the ease in which that boss is defeated as well.
One of the most interesting aspects of the game comes from the choices made in creating this alternate reality. Much of the X-Men canon has been pushed aside. In this world, the X-Men head to the west coast because they are being systematically wiped out for existing and a large number of them are missing or dead including original X-Men like Jean Grey, Beast or Angel. It is a risky decision to already eliminate characters from the series if they had ever hoped to continue it in a sequel.The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, At the same time, it is a risk to be applauded because the characters who are still around do a good job of conveying the gravity of the situation on top of the limited resources they have left to work with.

THE BACK TO SCHOOL SURVIVAL GUIDE
Eight out of 10 children carry too much weight in poorly-designed school bags, the charity BackCare warns. Studies have shown some youngsters carry loads that are prohibited under health and safety rules for adults.
That doesn't shock physiotherapist Sammy Margo who says: "We are seeing a huge increase in the number of kids with back problems.Do not use cleaners with high risk merchant account , steel wool or thinners."
She says the best bag is a rucksack with broad straps which should be shortened to ensure it fits close to the body.
"If kids insist on carrying their rucksack by just one strap, which a lot of them do, encourage them to alternate shoulders.
"I am not against across-the-body satchels so long as they have a wide strap and are worn close to the body."
Lighten the load by checking that your child isn't carrying books, PE kit and other paraphernalia to and from school unnecessarily.
NERVOUS STARTERS
If children haven't been to nursery or spent time with a child minder or nanny their first day may be their first long
period away from mum which can cause anxiety for both parent and child.
Parent coach and psychologist Dr Jenny Leonard says: "One of the best ways to overcome their fears is plenty of preparation. You want to be talking about school, their teacher and friends who are going to the same school.I have never solved a Rubik's hydraulic hose .
"It's also a good idea to walk or drive the route and have a look at the school even if you can't go in. If your child is clingy ask their teacher about sitting in the classroom for a while to get them settled.Detailed information on the causes of Ceramic tile, Try not to pass on your fears."

fruit but this was the food most likely to be left uneaten and only one in five packed lunches contained any salad or veg.
Helen Riley of the British Nutrition Foundation, says lunches should contain four key food groups: fruit, protein, starchy carbohydrates and vegetables and dairy.
"Sandwiches are easy but think about alternatives such as crispbread, pitta and wraps to add variety."
Pots of baked beans, pasta or rice salad or even homemade popcorn are healthy choices so long as there isn't lots of butter, sugar or salt.
A milky drink, yogurt or cheese will ensure dairy intake but use an ice pack and an insulated bag to keep food fresh.
