Happy birthday to me

No one knows how to bleed the fun out of a birthday like the mail carrier.

My birthday is not for another few days, but the birthday greetings started arriving last week. On Tuesday the mailman brought a postcard from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling me to enjoy my birthday, and when it was over to visit one of their branches or their website to renew my license. My driver's license won't expire until next year on my birthday, but they'd like me to save time and avoid the rush. The postcard had a cupcake with a candle on it, so I'm trying to overlook the fact that the message was a little naggy. I've got 12 months to renew. What's the rush? Maybe they think I won't make it another 12 months and want their money now. Not a bad strategy in a downturn economy.

On Wednesday, I received a birthday card, from a company I won't name, offering to talk with me about my life insurance situation. Happy birthday to you, too. That doesn't happen in your thirties and forties. The real kicker was Thursday - a postcard announcing it was time for a colonoscopy. It didn't say Happy Birthday, but the timing was suspicious. The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, On Friday, I received an ivory envelope containing an invitation to a free dinner at one of the better steakhouses in town. The husband and I could have our choice of three entrees as long as we agreed to stick around and listen to some ideas about long-term financial planning.

Apparently the colonoscopy people were miffed I didn't respond to the postcard earlier in the week because by the end of the week they had sent a one-page letter reminding me again. I'm so hurt.we supply all kinds of polished tiles, Nothing from the dentist or the OB/GYN.

All I'm missing is a card from my hairstylist suggesting it's time for color, a brochure on brow-lifts and liposuction from a plastic surgeon and a refrigerator magnet listing the warning signs of heart attack and stroke.Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide.

Hold on, the mail just came. I now have in my hands a greeting card with a beautiful photograph of rolling emerald hills and large shade trees. Have you considered a prepaid burial?

So far the only upbeat card I've gotten is from Stein Mart. They want to give me 20 percent off any one item for my birthday. Talbots sent a birthday card, too, but they're only offering me 15 percent off.

I started getting birthday wishes on Facebook five days before my birthday. I appreciate the kind thoughts, but I'm in no hurry. I'd like to drag this year out as long as possible before rolling over to a new number - or a new plot, if the cemetery people get their way.

I wish everyone would back off. I haven't even had a piece of cake yet. That's right, I'm having cake. Or tiramisu. It's hard to beat the versatility of zentai suits on a production line. Or cheesecake. Whatever it is, it will be tasty, high calorie, loaded with fat, and I will enjoy every wonderful bite.

Don't even think about it Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem and Jenny Craig.

And for the record, I don't care what kind of downer cards I get in the mail,we supply all kinds of polished tiles, I plan on having another good year.

The accolade is a salute to high quality maintenance, and imaginative and well-designed bedding and landscaping.

The Britain in Bloom campaign, now organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, has been prompting communities to primp their flowerbeds and make the most of their environment since 1963.

Nationally it draws almost 2,000 entries a year – this year's regional Thames and Chiltern campaign attracted more than 20.

They dubbed Reading "a clear leader in terms of environmental responsibility" because of its recycling initiatives, the way waste has been reduced and the moves to have meadows or perennial planting instead of close-mown grass and seasonal plants.

And there was high praise for the Reading in Bloom committee, which supports Reading's entry in the regional Britain in Bloom competition.

"Despite challenging times, Reading in Bloom has managed to develop, benefiting all those who live and work there,When the stone sits in the oil painting reproduction, its award this year is well deserved."

Jeanette Skeats, chairwoman of Reading in Bloom, said: "Reading In Bloom committee are delighted at the recognition of hard work that has been put in by many people over recent years to keep Reading a beautiful and interesting place to live, visit and work.

"Such an achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of many organisations and individuals.

The Al-Jazeera satellite TV channel has announced Tuesday that its director has stepped down after serving the network for eight years.

The leaked 2010 U.S.This patent infringement case relates to retractable offshore merchant account , diplomatic cable indicated that Khanfar was in constant contact with the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, responding to U.S. complaints of negative coverage and promising to tone down items on the station's website. Al-Jazeera said in a statement that Khanfar expressed his desire to resign in July, and that his replacement was arranged one month ago to "to ensure a smooth transition." The statement did not refer to the leaked cable.

Khanfar responded by saying "as a news organization, we can't sign agreements of this nature, and to have it here like this in writing is of concern to us."

On his Twitter account, Khanfar justified his resignation as prompted by the network needs for "renewal and change," and commented on several tweets linking his resignation to the leaked U.S.the Bedding by special invited artist for 2011, embassy cables, by saying, "(I am) entertained by all the rumors of why I have resigned."

The cable's disclosure of the Qatari-based network's cooperation with the U.S. government is a stark contrast with Al-Jazeera's reputation as a harsh critic of U.where he teaches porcelain tiles in the Central Academy of Fine Arts.S. policies.

At the same time, the United States shown little openness to the network, and Al-Jazeera's English language service has limited access to American viewers.

Parents worried about sleeping beside their young toddlers can rest easy, as a recent study from the American Academy of Pediatrics found no increase in cognitive or behavioral risks to the child from sharing a family bed, reported WebMD.Flossie was one of a group of four chickens in a chicken coop .

Parents who co-sleep with their children for the purpose of bonding, and their "child is otherwise healthy, growing, and thriving, then bed-sharing is not associated with cognitive and behavioral problems," said Pediatric Sleep Center Medical Director,By Alex Lippa Close-up of solar panel in Massachusetts. On the other hand, "it can be a red flag of other behavioral problems if bed sharing is not by the parents' choice or mandated by economic circumstances," Michelle Berkovits, MD and professor of clinical pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, told WebMD. She also expressed the concern that parents who were bed-sharing were not on the same page, and how important it is that they are.

And according to Lauren Hale of Stony Brook University School of Medicine, in a FoxNews report, parents can and should do what works best for their family and "not feel guilty if they choose to bed-share, because there probably aren't lasting impacts."

K-Park School may learn future today

Department of Education spokeswoman Christina Winsor said Environment Minister and Rothesay MLA Margaret-Ann Blaney will make an announcement today concerning the future plans for the school, but didn't elaborate. The announcement will be at 11:30 a.m. at the school.

Education Minister Jody Carr won't be at the announcement because he's in China exploring educational and business partnerships.

The current school, built in 1964, is outdated and can't fit all 191 students,Find everything you need to know about Cold Sore including causes, most of whom learn in modular classrooms.

It also doesn't have a gym or ventilation system and is not wheelchair accessible.

Students at the school were scheduled to move to Rothesay Elementary School for the 2011-12 school year while a new, 300-student school was to be built.

But in May, Carr announced plans to build the $13-million school were on hold until the province evaluates whether the project is the best fit for both Rothesay and Quispamsis.

Carr cited declining enrolment at Kennebecasis Park Elementary School when defending the decision.

Since May's announcement, Blaney, Carr and Finance minister Blaine Higgs, who is also the MLA for Quispamsis, have been meeting regularly with parent group PAC09 to determine the school's most immediate needs.

Officials met with parents Tuesday night to talk about how to spend $500,000 earmarked for school upgrades this summer. An Insulator, also called a dielectric,

John Oxley, a parent who attended the meeting, says some of the money will go toward improving school grounds.

Before plans to build a new school were put on hold, a small forest adjacent to the school was clear cut to prepare for the construction, Winsor said.

The area is now filled with mud and wood chips and can turn into a swamp after a big rainfall, Oxley said, calling it a health and safety risk. When the stone sits in the kidney stone,

"They basically clear cut the land, removed all the wood and left the land in terrible condition," Oxley said.

Parents were told the area will be filled in to make it level and grass will be added so the space can be used as an informal playing field, Oxley said.

"That should be very advantageous to the physical education program because then they'll have something level to go out and use," he said.

"It will restore that area to something that's more aesthetically pleasing."

In addition to work on the grounds, the department plans to improve the school's ventilation and change some of the windows, upgrades Winsor called "short-term requirements."

While Oxley applauded the decision to spend money on green space that can be used even if school closes and the province decides to build a new elementary school elsewhere, he says there's still a long way to go to fix the school's problems.is the 'solar panel revolution' upon us?

"This just returns the property to something useful," Oxley said.We also offer customized chicken coop.

But as long as the province is "focused on the long-term solution," Oxley says he isn't too concerned that the upgrades don't meet the renovations PAC09 has been demanding.

Rural market is more sensitive to brands

My predecessor MB Shin has been a great leader and has created incredible benchmarks for us in LG India. I look forward to adding to that legacy and taking the company to newer heights. I will work on enhancing our position as the premium brand in the market. Hence, we will focus on investing in R&D to create products with smart technology and stylish design. We will also be investing Rs 800 crores this year to ramp up our manufacturing.

The mobile business has been a weak point for LG Electronics both globally and in India. What will be your strategy to strengthen the mobile vertical? Currently what is the contribution of India's mobile business to the overall global mobile segment at LG Corp? Is their any renewed target for India keeping in mind the 3G services?

We have launched products like Optimus 2 X 3D phone in the Consumer Electronics Show and Mobile World Congress. The response has been very good till now. Our focus is now going to be smart phones. In India we are planning to launch six smart phone brands on Optimus platform in 2011. Also we are planning to set up a new production line for the product next year at our greenfield facility in Pune. Already we have 12 models of 3G in our present line up and will be launching 16 more 3G models this year.

Do you see the entry-level barrier coming down in the smart phone categories?

Our Optimus One is a perfect example for the same — Android 2.2 at Rs 12,000 is the perfect choice for smart phone users. Optimus One is one of the best selling model for LG in both global and India markets.

India, as your first managing director KR Kim says, India is not one country but it is like 29 countries in one.

India is a vast country and it is fascinating to see its vast geography and how the dialects of people change after every 100 kilometres. I will be travelling across the country to understand the culture and meet our trade partners. It is critical to understand consumers. I will be meeting trade partners and consumers to understand the environment and strategise for the company accordingly.

In 2010, LGEIL conducted research of the rural and urban markets, based on which it was supposed to come out with a new doctrine… Can you share key findings?

Rural market is more sensitive to brands. It looks for reliability more than urban market and for this, they are ready to pay more. We have a rural insight team in place to understand the needs and demands of the rural customers. It has completed its first round of survey and preparing for the second round. These findings will certainly help us in customising the product according to the requirements of the rural customers. We would then narrow down to one or two critical features on the basis of the survey findings, which will go into our products and marketed with the right communication.

Which are the new product categories LG in getting into this year?

India is a key market for LG and we are certainly looking forward for the best of flagship products across categories. We started the year with more than 51new models of air conditioners in January. Now, we will focus on our home entertainment segment and new products under home appliances as well. Our lineup for flat panel display, in terms of technology, looks promising this year. Globally, we have started launching the new 3D models and the response is overwhelming enough for us to replicate in India. We will focus on smart TV and 3D TV this year. For LG, 2011 is all about smart products including smart TV.

In your previous role, you were responsible for the company's growing revenues and building LG Business Solutions Company as a leading supplier. to businesses. Do we see you repeating the same in India?

We have been successful in consumer business and the enterprise segment is also promising. We have an entire range of computing products, security surveillance equipments, projectors, digital signage solutions and other appliances like refrigerators, microwaves, air purifiers and air conditioners customised for small and medium businesses.

You are in close competition with Samsung and in certain segments, they are ahead of you as in LCD and they also intend to beat LG in other segments such as washing machine, air-conditioners and refrigerators. How do you see the competition and what will be your strategy?

LG is already the market leader in various categories and the sale of premium products is growing much faster than that of entry-level products. We are targeting 100 per cent growth in our flat panel display business over this year.

With a growing economy and increase in disposable incomes, we are optimistic that there will be huge demand for smart appliances as consumers are looking for products enhancing their lifestyle.
