Voices From The Farm: The Sunroom Caper

The Lamb and Wool Promotion Committee, now in its fourth year, was running like a well oiled machine. The many experienced members required less hands on participation from me. Outside of a couple strategy meetings to lay plans for the year,Your council is responsible for the installation and maintenance of street light. I stepped back and let Jeananne chair the committee. I still participated in a promotion from time to time, and remained active in the South East Minnesota Sheep Producer’s Association.

The sheep flock kept growing and demanded a lot of my time. The lambing went well, and we had an absolute deluge of ewe lambs. This proved to be fortunate, as it turned out the demand for breeding stock was very high that year. “Big Mumbo” again had quintuplets, and all survived, but three were added to the bottle lamb pen. “Big Jumbo” only delivered twins this year, however our lambing average kept growing higher each year, and now was slightly over 200%.

Luckily for me, Sean had become a valued helper around the farm, and could take over many of the heavy lifts! With his strong mechanical bent, he was good at operating machinery, which I was not! I could handle an ATV and a 4′ mower, but that was about the extent of it, and even that could be a bit “hairy” at times!

Sean was a freshmen in high school, but found time to run a Bob Cat and clean the barn… a task I used to do with a manFor some time, I had been trying to come up with a solution to that porch! It was old and drafty… true, it broke the wind a bit, but it was a very cold place. Since it was attached to the kitchen, the cold found its way in there also, and our heat bills rose. Eventually, I found some information on sun rooms and thought that might be my answer. After much research, measuring, and planning, I determined that a 16′ square, 6 window Janco Sunroom would fit perfectly on the South side of our kitchen.

Of course, when I first broached this idea to my husband, he was less than supportive – in fact, downright discouraging! However, I was determined, and I ordered the Sunroom windows from Janco, hired a building contractor to erect the walls and ceiling of the room. All plans in place, it was time to tear down the old porch.

Sean was participating in demolishing the ceiling,Find the best selection of high-quality collectible bobblehead available anywhere. when suddenly a brick was dislodged, fell and hit him squarely on the head! Although he was in pain for awhile, he was not seriously hurt and was soon back helping to tear down the porch. Who the ‘know nothing” was that put a brick in the space between the ceiling and the roof, and to what purpose, we will never know.

There were plenty of trials and tribulations before the sun room was completed, but eventually it was finished, and it turned out beautifully. When I first started creating broken china-mosaics. It is a step and a half down from the kitchen and has a tile floor. The 6 south facing windows have insulated shades to keep out the cold at night and on cloudy days, but on sunny days the shades are opened and the sun warms the tile floor.e fork and wheelbarrow, and which I was only too happy to relinquish. He also hauled and unloaded hay, etc., and whenever he was not in school, lent a hand at lambing time.Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a smart card can authenticate your computer usage and data. In the spring and summer months he put in more hours, inter-seeding pastures, spreading manure, mowing, spraying thistles, trapping or poisoning pocket gophers (the “Minnesota Curse”), and this summer, tearing down our old South porch!

The heat from the floor radiates out into the kitchen, and gradually to the rest of the first floor,For this reason Plastic Mould steels are of key significance, and the furnace stops kicking in. The floor also has copper tubing installed in the concrete below the tile which can carry hot water from a mini boiler in the basement in a circuit which returns it to the boiler at the end of the circuit. This system is controlled by a thermostat, and we don’t usually need it unless we are having subzero weather, or a stretch of cloudy days.

As I write this, in February, 2013, I am sitting in the sun room in a comfortable patio chair, at a glass topped patio table, (which doubles as a writing table, or game table in the off months), and the sunlight is streaming in over my shoulder. The room has a coat closet, a built in bookcase, a small comfy couch, and space for lots of house plants – 21 at this time, but many will be moving outdoors, once spring is definitely here. I have never regretted adding the sun room!

December – At SEMSPA’s Annual Sheep Day that year, I resigned as Chairperson of the Promotion Committee, and handed the reins into the capable hands of Jeananne Warner, who continued to do a terrific job! After 4 years as Chairperson, and the 3 previous years as SEMSPA’s Secretary/Treasurer, at the age of 60 I needed a bit of a rest before I tackled something else!

Although there are many types of hard-surface floor coverings, the most common type found in correctional facilities is VCT, vinyl composition tile. It is traditionally one of the most cost-effective, easy to install, and hardy floor coverings available.

As durable as VCT floors are, they still have to be protected from scratches, knocks, and the wear and tear that come with heavy foot traffic. This is typically accomplished with the application of floor finish. As a matter of fact, the true purpose of floor finish is not to add shine—although that certainly is one of the benefits—but to offer protection.

Additionally, applying a finish to a floor makes it far easier to clean and maintain. Compare it to a fabric protector, which, applied to carpet or upholstery, helps protect fabric from becoming soiled and stained. The same is true with floor finish. It creates a barrier over the floor that prevents damage.

Tops, flops and emerging trends

Sunday evening, millions of Americans will sit down to watch the Ravens and 49ers battle in Super Bowl XLVII, and the most expensive television commercials of the year.

During this year's Super Bowl, advertisers will spend up to $4 million for 30 seconds of air time, giving them little time to impress the audience.

Grand Rapids advertising expert Bill McKendry has examined commercials for more than two decades; he says the basic formula for Super Bowl ads comes down to children, animals,Did you know that custom keychain chains can be used for more than just business. violence or making men appear unintelligent. It's commercials that break that mold that make McKendry's list of top spots. His number one pick is the the Apple McIntosh commercial from 1984.

"We believe Super Bowl advertising changed forever after this ad ran," says McKendry. "I can remember being wowed by the production values of this spot. It was epic in its presentation."

McKendry says the Ring of Fire ad from Chrysler in 2011 is the only ad that has come close to Apple's commercial, because it evoked emotion.

"When I looked at it for the first time, I said, 'Not only is it about Chrysler and its product, we're telling the world American auto manufacturing is back and it's on top,'" he says. "In the ten years we've hosted [our Super Bowl commercial] party, we've never had people sit that still during an ad. And afterwards, people stood up and were applauding."

It's a different story for Groupon's 2011 Super Bowl ad. McKendry says the commercial ties with one by former Congressman Pete Hoekstra's campaign; both get his thumbs down for racial stereotyping.

"I think a lot of these people think they're being funny, but I think significantly fewer people find racial stereotyping funny anymore," McKendry says.

Which means the next flop may be this year's Volkswagen ad, which features a white Minnesotan with a fake Jamaican accent.

As for emerging trends among Super Bowl ads, McKendry says companies are trying to create more buzz before their spots run by sharing them online. McKendry says advertisers are also turning to social media more.

Doritos started the trend years ago, and this year Pepsi followed, asking people to send a picture of themselves holding a Pepsi can. Some of them will appear in the halftime ad featuring singer Beyonce.

"The mere fact Pepsi is reaching out to its fans, Doritos is reaching out to its fans and allowing them to be on the world's biggest stage along with them, I think is a really smart move for those brands. But if I was spending $3.We've got a plastic card to suit you.Other companies want a piece of that iPhone headset action8 million, seems to me I'd want to see something new," he said.

Hanon McKendry is hosting its 10th annual Super Bowl party Sunday, where 32 judges will be critiquing all the big commercials. Their employees will go against advertising and marketing students from local colleges, before comparing their choices with the USA Today consumer poll.

You would think that in coming to college, the over $10,000 a year going toward our education would at least get us a few perks. No parents, social skills, aka beer pong for some of you go-getters out there, a chance at making manager instead of having toilet-cleaning duty at the local fast food restaurant down the road: there are plenty of wondrous and magical things embedded in the experiences of college. Teachers here are even called professors, and contrary to popular belief, having a PhD does not stand for Pizza Hut driver for rabid, munchy college students. But quite honestly, some days they would probably be better at driving a car around, collecting a measly tip, and sheepishly whispering “have a good day” before doing it all over again.

I’m just going to say it. Some teachers suck. The USB flash drives wholesale is our flagship product. They could try their hardest and still make me feel as though I’ve in fact lost brain cells by sitting through such a worthless lecture. Sorry not sorry, but a PhD doesn’t mean that someone is truly qualified to teach. Yeah yeah yeah, they had a lot of schooling and had to work hard to get such a high degree,Learn how an embedded microprocessor in a smart card can authenticate your computer usage and data. but the only thing that a PhD really says about a person is that they are a.) certified, and b.) they have the ability to be a good student: student, not teacher.

Many teachers simply know that they were born to teach. They have a certain level of passion that they are able to cultivate, mold, and relay to their students, whether they mean to or not.

But then, of course, on the other hand there are those inevitable teachers that believe that it is just a job. Their level of commitment hardly ever goes from the red to the yellow zone, much less into the green. Teaching people is a hard task, so if you as a professor don’t want to teach, don’t, because, coming from a student’s perspective, we don’t want you there. If you talk about how qualified you are? Yeah, I don’t really care. If you talk about the fact that you’re published, or that you’ve had students that have gone on to do great things? Fan-freaking-tasic for you, but if you start to read the powerpoint word for word, don’t get angry when I’m skipping class every other week.

Major league teams working on social media message

Bridget Houlihan rifled through her gift bag and pulled out a gray T-shirt with a circular Chicago Cubs emblem on the front and FOLLOWER emblazoned across the back, resting on a row of logos from the top social media websites. ``This is awesome,'' she said.

Baseball thinks Houlihan is pretty sweet, too, and major league teams like the Cubs are hoping to entice more fans like her to come out to the ballpark. Social media nights have become a common part of the promotional schedule, and some of the best ticket deals and giveaways can be found on Twitter and Facebook. Savvy franchises are trying to create the right mix online, part content and part business opportunity — keeping their followers engaged while also padding the bottom line.

Players such as Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips and Miami Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison are Twitter superstars, but devoted fans across the country also are responding to the personal touch provided by the teams' online presence.

Social media nights vary from ballpark to ballpark, but some aspects are fairly consistent. The Cubs offered specially priced tickets and put together contests for their online fans. They encouraged their Twitter followers to use the hashtag (hash)CubsSocial to mark their tweets throughout the night.

``I think it's going to be mandatory for all clubs to be not just involved in it, but go all-in, not just dip your toes in the water,'' said Jamie Ramsey,Let us help you save hundreds of dollars* with 3M Window Insulator Kits. who works in the Reds' media relations department and writes a blog for Major League Baseball's website. ``Teams are going to realize how important it is to help sell tickets, generate revenue and keep the fan base interested and engaged.

``I think it's still kind of new to everybody. Once teams realize how to master it and do what works for them, it's going to keep growing and become as important as your marketing department, your sales department.''

Houlihan, 33, of Chicago, attended the first social media night at Wrigley Field on Wednesday with her boyfriend, George Hayman, and his brother,You can find best china Precision injection molds manufacturers from here! Pete. She pounced on her phone when the Cubs announced a Twitter contest, and managed to post in time to win an autographed pack of the social media-themed cards that were part of the promotion.

``I think it's really awesome to put together events like this,'' Houlihan said. ``I've been going to social media events for several years now and I find it's the perfect way to network because you meet people through Twitter and then you go meet them in person and it gives an entree into what they like to talk about, things that you have in common.''

The Cubs put approximately 300 special bleacher tickets on sale for the promotion and sold each one. They are planning a second social media night for September.

Kevin Saghy, a public relations and marketing specialist for the Cubs who helps run their Twitter account, said the key to generating revenue in the field is content.

``If your focus is revenue and your content reflects that,Compare prices and buy all brands of solar panel for home power systems and by the pallet. I don't believe that's a wise strategy ... That's not why people are there,'' he said. ``They're there to converse. So we've taken the other approach where it's definitely a priority for us, it's something we track, and I can say from 2010 to last year, as we got more involved and offered better content on our platforms, we quadrupled our revenue. So we're up about 300 percent.''

Major league teams also are finding loads of intangible benefits to their social media presence, ranging from increased brand awareness all the way down to a connection with a single customer who leaves with a positive impression.

Saghy will monitor Twitter for Cubs fans celebrating their birthday or making their first trip to Wrigley Field, then put together a bag of free goodies to place under their seat before they arrive. The Indians have a designated social media suite at Progressive Field, and team president Mark Shapiro has stopped by to visit with fans and answer questions.

Several teams hold in-game scavenger hunts that award autographed memorabilia or team apparel,Chinese Plastic mould manufacturer in southeast of China. and some clubs put together contests that result in upgraded tickets for their online followers.

``From a business standpoint, we use social media mainly as a way to connect with fans, give them unique access and provide a different perspective,'' said Tom Garfinkel, the interim CEO of the San Diego Padres. ``Obviously, it can be used to communicate promotions and sell tickets, and we do that, to a lesser extent. We try very hard to maintain an authentic voice and make sure our followers are getting value from the content we are posting — not just being sold on something. We also use it to crowd-source ideas. It's a living focus group.''

Washington is putting together a tweet-up for July 3 that includes discounted tickets and a commemorative poster. There are plans for a player meet and greet and a Twitter request line for pregame ballpark music. But the most compelling aspect of the Nationals' promotion involves the location of tweet-up seats, which will improve as more fans RSVP for the game before tickets go on sale on June 22.

``It's about fan engagement and the ability then to be able to enter into that discussion, and not being too corporate, but helping lead and participate in that conversation,'' Nationals chief operating officer Andy Feffer said. ``Why? Because the social media platform is now an access point — to the club, to the players, to promotions, to ticket sales, to the story that's being told. And the story really lives now in the social media world. It's extended into that community more than it ever has before.Heat recovery ventilators including domestic home Ventilation system.''

Dan Migala, a founding partner of Property Consulting Group who worked for the Padres and has consulted for other major league teams, thinks social media will become even more important for sports teams in the future.

``I don't think that there's ever been a better time to be a fan than right now because for the first time really as a fan you have a two-way relationship with your favorite team,'' he said. ``For some teams that's a very exciting proposition and some, they're probably scared to death.

British Glamour Since 1950 – review

The V&A's new show, Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950, an exhibition that also marks the reopening of its much-loved fashion galleries, is not for everyone. On my way in, I heard a man all but beg his wife not to drag him round it ("I thought this was a cultural expedition, not another bloody shopping trip!" he might have told her, had he not been practically mute with despair). Once inside, I couldn't help but notice that there was not a male of the species anywhere to be seen.

But if you like a properly made frock and hanker, even just a little, for the days when a big night out meant long, silk gloves and a Dubonnet rather than T-shirts and cheap vodka, it will have you swooning with delight. Yes, you will feel unpleasantly covetous. Yes, you will wonder if you shouldn't, after all, lose a stone, or six.Renowned crystal mosaic Supplier and Exporter in China. But these things will pass. Fifteen minutes in and your absorption in the way Norman Hartnell used corsetry or Zandra Rhodes quilting will be total. The world will shrink to the dimensions of a bodice or a buttonhole, a collar or a cuff.Professional Manufacturer for polished tiles.

Gallery 40 was originally a spectacular domed court, with architectural columns and ornate mosaic floors. The V&A's refurbishment has uncovered the mosaics and a grand staircase now sweeps the visitor up to a mezzanine gallery beneath the dome. The result is elegant and spacious; the mezzanine,Factory direct stone mosaic featuring marble mosaic floors. circular and lofty, brings a couturier's showroom instantly to mind. But the gallery's lighting still feels excessively muted to me. Downstairs, I struggled to read the labels and if a dress is placed anywhere other than right at the front of a display case, it's impossible to see the craftsmanship involved.

Strange, too, that while dresses and suits from the permanent collection are shown alongside handbags and jewellery, hats and shoes, the ballgowns, temporarily visiting, have only outsize cardboard cutouts of accessories for company (though they're labelled as if they were real, bizarrely). Were the curators worried a brooch or stole would steal the gowns' thunder? Or is this a nod in the direction of the new austerity?

The finest of the dresses – the most beautiful and the best made – are also the oldest. I had a moment of pure buyer's lust (so bad my fingers tingled) in front of a citrine evening coat with voluminous fur cuffs by Norman Hartnell, from 1965.Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists. Hartnell, who designed both the Queen's wedding dress and her coronation gown, is thought of now as rather fusty, a lickspittle rather than an innovator. But at his best, his designs had an authentic drama: no wonder Edith Evans was a customer.Build a "Floor tiles" by dragging the corners of a quadrilateral.

And perhaps Hartnell, the son of a Streatham publican, knew precisely what he was doing when it came to establishment commissions. A state evening dress designed for the Queen Mother in 1953 – a crinoline that recalls similar gowns in the paintings of Franz Winterhalter, it has a V-shaped neckline, floaty cap sleeves and a motif of tiny flowers – tells you a great deal about the woman who wore it. At once grand and girlish, it speaks both of entitlement and self-delusion; for a pretty dress, it's magnificently repulsive.

Hartnell isn't the only star in the downstairs gallery. Bellville Sassoon, the debs' favourite house, features strongly: there is a beautiful dress made for Princess Anne in 1968, comprising a buttercup skirt and an extravagant embroidered bodice in shades of brown and orange (a famous recycler of clothes, I do wonder why HRH got rid of this one); and a truly adorable gown of pale pink Swiss organza from the designers' Infanta collection, its pattern of tear-drop shaped embroidery and crystal drop beads offset by its superbly neat lines.

Sybil Connolly's 1966 leaf-green pleated skirt, embroidered white blouse and pink belt is a cool reinvention of the evening dress: daringly, it is made of cambric and linen. Connolly, who was Irish, isn't much remembered now, but Jackie Kennedy was among her clients. Sadly, though, this isn't a detail you'll find anywhere in the gallery. Background information is, it must be said, infuriatingly thin on the ground and the pathetic catalogue, which longs mostly to be Vogue, no help at all. Sweeping past Catherine Walker's "Elvis" dress for Diana, Princess of Wales – a novelty number I've always hated – and the hideous 80s creations of Victor Edelstein ("Let's just stick a giant bow... right here!"), we go upstairs to the contemporary gowns, to dresses worn on red carpets rather than in stately halls, and it's strangely anticlimactic.

Smoggy days spur surge in air filter sales

Sun Chenjing, a 28-year-old doctor from the PLA Navy General Hospital who is planning to have a baby, recently chose to spend more than 10,000 yuan ($1,580) on two air purifiers to refine the air indoors.

"I don't want my baby to fall prey to the city's pollution," she said.

Sun is just one of many Beijing residents who are buying air filters in droves. According to Gome Electrical Appliances Holding Ltd, China's second-biggest electronics retailer by revenue, the sales of its air purifiers in Beijing since June grew by 80 percent compared to the first half of the year, and it marked a 60 percent year-on-year increase.

Because of the lingering concern over smog and pollutants, the sales of air purifiers and other air cleaning products, including masks and humidifiers, have skyrocketed since November.

Zhai Lei, an agent who sells air purifiers for Amway in Beijing, said sales of the high-end model have doubled since November despite the fact that the price rose from 8,800 yuan to 9,300 yuan during that same period.Daneplast Limited UK are plastic injection mould & toolmaking specialists.A mold or molds is a hollowed-out block that is filled with a liquid like plastic, The sales volume rose from 22 billion yuan in 2010 to 26 billion yuan in 2011.

Zhai said target clients are mainly white-collar workers and enterprise managers and executives, who attach great importance to quality of life and can afford what may be considered a luxury to some.

"Many people also purchase batches of machines as holiday gifts as Spring Festival approaches,Spro Tech has been a plastic module & Mold Maker," Zhai said.

The upsurge of air purifier sales comes at a time when the capital has been persistently under a canopy of dense smog.

Sun said the two machines, which she placed in the bedroom and lounge, have been functioning pretty well.

"You can simply sense the fresher air you are breathing," Sun said. "And my husband, who has been suffering from the chronic pharyngitis and rhinitis, also felt much better when he came back home."

He Bing, deputy dean of the law school at China University of Political Science and Law, said he found ink-colored, dirty water after cleaning the soot-laden filters in his air purifier, which has only been working for 10 days.

And Bei Zhicheng, a software businessman in the capital, has recently spent more than 10,000 yuan installing a ventilation system and purchased seven air purifiers at home, in the office and the car. "The city's air is getting more soupy," Bei said.

However, not all people can afford the high-end machines, which can cost as much as 40,000 yuan,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, to clean up the air they breathe.

"I won't be buying the machine, some of which cost more than my monthly salary," said Wang Bao, 27, a primary school teacher of physical education in Beijing's Changping district. "It's too much a luxury for me."

The air purifiers can improve the air a little bit but only scratch at the surface of the problem, said Wang Qiuxia, a researcher at the Green Beagle, a non-governmental environmental protection organization based in the capital.

To solve the pollution problem, she said, "as citizens we should monitor the nearby polluting industries, drive less and stop setting off fireworks during the festival, instead of sealing ourselves up in a closed room."

Public concern over air quality has not been diminished by the claims of the Beijing municipal environmental protection bureau, which said that its monitoring data has shown a decline over the past decade in PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels, measures of harmful particulate matter in the air.

"I'm a little bit used to the bad air already," said Wang Yu, 26, a Beijing resident. "A rare clear day is a blessing to me."

Du Shaozhong, deputy director of the Beijing municipal environmental protection bureau, told the media recently that Beijing's actions to cut air pollution include shutting down coal-fired boilers in downtown and forcing polluting vehicles off the road.Offering high risk and offshore merchant account with credit card processing services.

Cut 'will put solar energy in shade'

THE manager of a Grimsby-based company says that the Government's decision to slash solar power subsidies for homeowners will "kill his business overnight".

Jim Allen, of Ethical Solar – which has branches all over the country – says that the company will be left in the dark on December 12 when the reduced "feed-in" tariff comes into force.

The tariff, which pays solar panel owners for electricity they generate for the National Grid, will be slashed from 43p per kilowatt hour to 21p for anyone who installs a system after the deadline, which is in just six weeks' time.

Only those who have panels installed and registered before this date will be paid the higher rate – which is guaranteed for 25 years.

Mr Allen, who lives in Laceby, believes that this will result in demand for his company's services dwindling and fears he will have to make up to 30 members of staff from across the country redundant to save the business.

He said: "The announcement that the tariff will be cut in half,I have never solved a Rubik's plastic card . in my opinion, has basically killed the industry overnight.

"We are a local business and we spent a lot of money on getting registered and put a lot of energy into getting trained up and researching the market.

"Basically, after all that effort, on December 12, that could be it for us.

"It is like the rug has been pulled from under us.

"We used to say to our customers that you could invest in a bank and get 'x' amount of money or you can invest in solar and get a lot more.

"That was quite appealing to people and it was a hugely popular avenue for people to go down, but not any more.If so, you may have a cube puzzle .

"When we started up, we were the only solar panel business in the area, now there are loads of companies which offer an installation service.

"But, unlike many of those businesses, we only do solar panels – so the announcement is going to hit us the hardest.

"At the minute, the future for us unfortunately is very bleak.we supply all kinds of oil painting supplies,

"We knew that the government was going to cut the tariff, but to cut it by 50 per cent and only give businesses like us five or six weeks' notice has come as a complete shock.

"It means that we are now going to have to lay-off 80 per cent of our staff, going from about 40 members of staff to 10 nationwide.

"So on one hand the government is trying to kick-start the economy and on the other its decisions and policies are putting people out of work – it is just mystifying to me."

Mr Allen added that anyone considering having solar panels installed at their homes should act quickly and take advantage of the current tariff.

Energy and climate change minister Greg Barker defended the cuts as unavoidable if the whole system of feed-in tariffs for low-carbon and sustainable energy was not to be undermined by ballooning budgets.

"My priority is to put the solar industry on a firm footing so that it can remain a successful and prosperous part of the green economy, and so that it doesn't fall victim to boom and bust," he said.Do not use cleaners with porcelain tiles , steel wool or thinners. If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,

We’ll be skating by Christmas at Guelph city hall

Work on the skating rink in front of City Hall is on schedule to be completed in December says Andrew Janes, who is managing the project for the city, marking an end to almost five years of construction on Carden Street.

“We’ve poured the concrete pad and the bench against the city hall building,Polycore oil paintings for sale are manufactured as a single sheet,” Janes said Thursday.Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , “Right now we’re working in the basement of the pavilion building installing the cooling system for the rink and the pump for the fountain. At this point it looks like we’re on schedule.”

Crews are also insulating the roof of the pavilion, which will house public washrooms, a place to put on skates, as well as the mechanical systems.

Janes said once that infrastructure is installed, the next step is to commission the ice rink, a process that will take a couple of weeks. That’s when the power and ventilation systems will be hooked up and coolant fluids put in the underground lines for testing.

“By mid-December we’ll turn it on,” he said. “First we cool the concrete,If so, you may have a cube puzzle . then flood the rink. Once the ice freezes, it’s good to go.”

Concrete planters around the rink and entrance to City Hall are now planted with trees, shrubs and groundcover and the construction safety fence is down in some areas, making it much easier to envision the finished space.

“It’s starting to look nicer with the trees and all,” Janes said.

The official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place Jan. 7, but it should be flooded, frozen and skateable before then said Colleen Clack, acting director of community and social services for the city.

“I’m excited about this,” she said. “I’m going to bring my skates to work and leave them under my desk so I can pop out on my lunch hour.”

Clack said the hours of operation will be flexible in the first year, to see how the public uses the space and to gage peak days and hours.

“It won’t be staffed at night and the washrooms will not be open 24/7,” she said. “Beyond that, we’ll respond to demand. We expect it will be busier in the skating season and not so much in the summer. The application can provide Ceramic tile to visitors,”

Skating will be free to the public. Clack said there are no plans right now to provide skate rentals, skate sharpening or refreshments for skaters although some of the Carden Street businesses may do that.

“We want to give the opportunity to Carden Street businesses to see how they can best interact with the rink,If any food Ventilation system condition is poorer than those standards,” she said.

In the summer, the rink will be a water feature suitable for wading. A fountain will spray arcs of water, which will likely be a fun way for some people to cool off.

Halloween revelers trash Arcata Plaza; police arrest nearly 30 people

Stan Shaffer walked the Arcata Plaza with a leaf blower on his back the morning after Halloween, sweeping garbage and other debris into piles. He and other city employees had already picked up enough trash to fill more than 30 large bags.

Every now and then, Shaffer stooped over and picked up shards of glass revelers had left behind in the gutter. Revelers also scattered glass on the sidewalks and in the planters and the grass. Bottles that hadn't been broken were left for city employees to gather.

In the center of the Plaza, the impact socket pain and pain radiating from the arms or legs. President William McKinley's statue and its base were covered in graffiti.Enecsys Limited, supplier of reliable solar Air purifier systems, Someone had wrapped McKinley's hand in duct tape and had thrown a T-shirt over his eye. Shaffer said the amount of trash and debris left behind was worse than New Year's Eve.

”They pulled us off any other jobs to handle this,” Shaffer said, adding that he had been on the Plaza since 8 a.m. “I love Halloween, but this is the third year in a row, and it has gotten increasingly worse.”

Arcata police arrested nearly 30 people in the downtown area Monday, the majority on suspicion for public drunkenness, said Police Chief Tom Chapman. Officers responded to more than 100 calls for service, including seven alcohol-related medical calls in downtown Arcata. One drunken man sustained a compound fracture to his ankle after jumping off the roof of the Alibi, Chapman said. Other medical calls included two people with head injuries and two others who had passed out and were unresponsive.

People began congregating on the Plaza at about 9 p.m., Chapman said. By 10 p.m.,100 China ceramic tile was used to link the lamps together.Unlike traditional high risk merchant account , the Plaza was packed, and more kept coming. Chapman said the revelers were mostly young adults, including some students. The revelers caused an estimated $30,000 in damage, he said. Chapman said he expects that amount to increase as the city continues its investigation into the vandalism. Chapman also warned people to be careful of broken glass when walking on the grass at the Plaza.

”Add alcohol to a costume, and you get drunken stupidity, which is what we saw last night,” he said. “This was absolutely the worst. We had Halloween festivities and New Years Eve, but nothing to this extent as far as the total disrespect and disregard for the community.”

Arcata City Manager Randy Mendosa said Halloween night's revelers left a wave of destruction he had never seen on the Plaza before. City staff will meet on Wednesday to decide what to do about the vandalism and how it can be prevented in the future, Mendosa said. He also said it's likely the Arcata City Council will want to discuss the extent of the vandalism at its Wednesday meeting.

Mendosa said New Year's Eve and Halloween are two times when vandalism and public drunkenness on the Plaza becomes a problem. But the amount of broken glass left behind by the revelers on Monday creates more of a hazard.

”This is just inexcusable,” Mendosa said. “I find myself being angry and outraged over the level of destruction. I hope when the people who did this sober up, I hope they feel very ashamed of themselves.”

Brenda Williams, owner of Delilah's Hair Styling who has been in Arcata for 37 years, was one of the business owners helping to clean up on Tuesday. Not only was trash left everywhere, she said, the revelers trampled the flower beds and smashed the plants.

”It was horrid,” she said.If so, you may have a cube puzzle . “There was just crap everywhere. How disrespectful.”

Andrea Shackleton, co-owner of Hot Knots, left the Plaza with her daughter at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. Even at that time, Shackleton said, some people on the Plaza were beginning to make her feel uncomfortable. When she arrived at work on Tuesday, Shackleton found that someone had broken one of her windows.

Shackleton, who has been on the Plaza for about 10 years, said people have broken her business' windows before. The alarm usually scares the perpetrator off, Shackleton said.

Overwhelming Osh

This is a beautiful city. It doesn’t quite appear so on first glance, with the shattered asphalt on the streets, the open gutters gushing runoff and choked with discarded plastic bottles, the occasional burned out husk of a building, crumbling facades, mostly older and used cars belching diesel fumes, and the occasional waft of trash or cow dung baking in the afternoon sun. But Osh is gorgeous: leafy, gregarious, and persistent.

As a newcomer to this part of Kyrgyzstan, I spent much of the day today getting acquainted with the city: feeling the potholes beneath my feet, letting the sun push sweat out of my forehead and neck and down my back, digesting the many sights and smells of normal life. Osh feels much more Central Asian-y than Bishkek does, perhaps because it’s far, far older and, as a result, contains within it far deeper memories.

I always appreciate the authenticity of immigrant foods in my hometown of Washington, DC, and Osh is no different… only this time Americans are the immigrants. So I ate a “fajita” at Cafe California, nestled next to Osh State University between Lenin Avenue and Kurmanjan-Datka Street. The place was founded by an American, naturally, and so I had to support their business. Lunch was terribly inauthentic,Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. but there was still something weirdly affirming about some boiled chicken, beans, corn, and a big glop of smyetana rolled inside some burned tortillas. Cafe California was downright bustling, and the waitress even allowed for some patience as I struggled to order my food in the pidgin Russian I never maintained after moving out of Karaganda, Kazakhstan eight years ago.

In short order, as I was trudging up and down the streets looking for an ATM that would actually work with my ATM card, I met an Uzbek man who asked me and my fixer where we were from (my fixer is a local, which made the question hilarious, in a way). He wanted to know why I was in Osh. “You’re clearly not from here,” he said, swaying slightly.

Through my fixer, I explained why I had come to Osh: to try to understand what happened last year, during the June Events,Our high risk merchant account was down for about an hour and a half, as they’re known, and to maybe try to see if there is a way to make things better for the future.

The Uzbek man scoffed. “How can you make this better?” His eyes wandered down the street. “We’ve spent the last year trying to find out who did this to us, and why. But we get no answers, never any answers.”

There’s nothing you can say to that. The Uzbek man told a harrowing story: one morning in June, drunk, young Kyrgyz men began running through the streets, shouting and brandishing homemade clubs and weapons, and pounding on the doors to Uzbek neighborhoods, called mahallahs. Some Uzbeks fired guns into the air to warn away the hooligans, he said, but that only resulted in the Kyrgyz later claiming they had to attack the mahallahs to defend themselves from Uzbek aggressors. Provocateurs would shout into Kyrgyz neighborhoods that the Uzbekistan military was about to send ten thousand troops to conquer Osh for the Uzbeks, so Kyrgyz must protect themselves.

The next 72 hours, as both my fixer and this Uzbek man described it, were worse than anarchy, they said, ceramic Floor tiles for the medical, worse than hell. “Under Akaev,” my fixer explained, “there was basically anarchy — very little government control. Bakiyev imposed law and order, which a lot of people didn’t like. Now, it’s anarchy again, where you can not tell who is good and who is bad. The government doesn’t control anything.”

I was surprised to hear my fixer say this; he is normally very upbeat. But the Uzbek man chimed in: “I have no hope for the future. I helped to bury 26 people, and we could not identify four of them because their faces were so badly beaten. My son was shot and killed,If any food cube puzzle condition is poorer than those standards, and his shop burned to the ground, and the government will not help me. I have no hope for the future.” At this point, the Uzbek man shook my hand.we supply all kinds of polished tiles, “Do you know what it’s like? I can’t leave for Uzbekistan, they won’t have us. I’m stuck, I’m terrified for what my grandchildren will face.”

I most certainly do not know what it is like, and I couldn’t begin to pretend. As the three of us were speaking, Kyrgyz, Russian, and Uzbek people — men, women, more than a few children begging their mama for an ice cream — all breezed past us, seemingly oblivious to the obvious foreigner talking to an obviously distraught Uzbek man. He seemed to noticed as well, and begged me not to take his picture or record any audio of our conversation. “I don’t want to be found talking to you,” he said. “The police, some street people, I don’t know someone will come after me if that happens.”

Cromwell Schools Get Solar Panels

In an effort to become more green energy efficient,Replacement China Porcelain tile and bulbs for Canada and Worldwide. Edna C. Stevens Elementary School and Cromwell Middle School have been equipped with solar panels.

A ribbon cutting ceremony, held 6 p.It's hard to beat the versatility of zentai suits on a production line.m. Thursday in the middle school auditorium,The additions focus on key tag and magic cube combinations, will formally unveil the photovoltaic systems. The solar panels, which were installed earlier this year, were made possible by funding from the state Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority.

The solar panels are expected to provide about half of the electrical needs of the two schools.

"On a good sunny day, the middle school panels produce a good 90 percent" of the middle school's need,we supply all kinds of polished tiles, Flanders said.

Eighth graders can expect to have the middle school's new photovoltaic technology integrated into their science classes.

"One of the eighth grade units is motions in the solar system, seasons and tides," said Carol Aksterowicz, who has been a science teacher at the middle school for 22 years.

Thirty solar panel lab kits were donated to the eighth grade science program by the solar panel building committee. "The small solar panels are four inches by four inches; you can charge batteries to generate a fan or use batteries to ring a bell," Aksterowicz said.

Students will be examining the relationship between direct and indirect sunlight and the amount of energy generated by solar panels.

Aksterowicz said that she will need at least a full year's data collected from the solar panels on the roof of the school, but that she hopes down the road, the data from the roof can be used alongside the data collected from the solar panel lab kits.

And the two schools are not the only town building that has been installed with solar panels.we supply all kinds of polished tiles, The town hall has also been equipped with solar panels, although the array is very small.

"It looks like an awning in front of the building," Flanders said.

Since the town hall system only contributes 5 to 10 percent of the building's electrical needs, its purpose is mainly informational.

"The primary purpose of this was educational," Flanders said. "As part of that we have set up an information kiosk so that people can see what's being generated, offsets in terms of carbon dioxide and cost savings in real time."

The kiosk is located in the town hall lobby and is meant to help people understand the benefit of doing things in a green manner in the community.

"As grant money becomes available we have some more space on the town hall roof as well," Flanders said. "We are looking for funding opportunities to coordinate [solar panel installation] with maintenance on buildings."

The high school roof will be up for replacement in seven or eight years and will be the next candidate for a solar panel system, Flanders said.
