Oakfield’s Haxton Library brightens children’s area

The children’s library at Haxton Memorial Library, has undergone a transformation.

Gone are the beige walls and institutional gray carpet. In their place are walls painted bright blue,The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free, yellow, bright purple, light green and orange with a new rug of coordinating tiles to match the walls.

“We really wanted to walls to pop and stand out,” Library Director Kim Gibson said. “The room never had the bright look of a children’s room; a look that says ‘This is a cool place to be.’”

The project was completed over about a month in December. A reopening celebration is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday and the library will debut several new programs next month in the room.

The renovated room has been completely redecorated and includes special designated areas, including a “comfy corner” for adults with soft chairs and parenting materials available. The toy area was revamped with new shelves and colorful bins. There is also a new reading area for young children where they can hang out on several colorful beanbags.

Older furniture was replaced with newer pieces and other items in the room were moved to improve accessibility through the space. A section of brown paneling was painted white with huge squares that matched the colors in the rug.

“We’ve really opened it up and brightened the room,” Gibson said. “Little things made such a huge difference.”

Renovations began in early December and were completed by the end of the month, a window established by funding from the town of Oakfield that would only be available until the end of the year. Will’s Carpet One of Batavia replaced the carpet — 2,560 square feet of tiles in the room and an additional 180 square feet of carpeting in an adjacent stairway.

Painting was done by about five volunteers from a mom’s group that meets at the library and their husbands, a board member and her husband, and several library staff members. Staff also stayed late and came in on weekends to box up all the books in the room,China yiri mould is a professional manufacturer which integrates Plastic Mould design and manufacture and plastic product development. including from four large book shelves.

The town contributed half of the cost for the carpet, while the rest was covered by donations from past years that were being saved for this project. A donation from a patron paid for the paint and the library covered other miscellaneous expenses such as those for additional supplies.

“A lot of people worked together to get this project done in the time frame we had.Smooth-On is your source for Mold Making and casting materials including silicone rubber and urethane rubber, It was a little stressful, but worth it,” Gibson said.

The new room will also bring new programming to the library beginning next month. A “Lunchbox Story Time” will be offered Wednesday afternoons from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. and include stories, short films and other activities.Take a walk on the natural side with stunning and luxurious Floor tiles from The Tile Shop.Omega Plastics are leading plastic injection moulding and injection mould tooling specialists. “Rhythm and Rhyme Time,” with a story and song for preschool age children, is planned Friday afternoons.

The room was last painted about eight years ago and the rug was at least 15 years old. The rug had also suffered some stain and moisture problems, which prompted the use of easier to replace carpet blocks in the renovation.

“I was nervous at first,” Gibson said, “because we had this dream and didn’t know if the dream would play out the way we wanted, but it did.”
