Shorter train waiting times on N-S Line

From today, commuters can expect shorter waiting times as SMRT increases train frequency on the North-South Line.

SMRT said yesterday that waiting times would be cut from six minutes to 21/2 minutes between 7am and 7.30am, and between 7pm and 7.30pm.

Normally, from 7.30am to 9am, and from 5pm to 7pm, the waiting time is 21/2 minutes to five minutes. The new waiting times will be reviewed at a later date.

After a series of North-South Line breakdowns last week, SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) conducted an overnight inspection of the North-South and East-West lines last Saturday.

As a result of that inspection,As a professional manufacturer of China ceramic tile in China, a 40kmh speed limit was imposed on trains running near the city as a safety precaution. SMRT said that this increased travelling times by two to seven minutes.

LTA said yesterday that SMRT would conduct train trial runs at different speeds over the next few days. Depending on the results, LTA and SMRT would consider raising the speed limit to 60kmh.

The inspection also led to the discovery of 13 defective trains, which were later withdrawn from service.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said yesterday on Facebook that SMRT has repaired 11 of the 13 trains. The 11 trains have been put back into service.

"Hence, (SMRT is) now able to operate the trains during peak hours at intervals very close to what they were before the two major incidents last week," said Mr Lui.

The overnight inspection also showed that 21 "claws", or metal grips, along the North- South and East-West lines were missing.

The claws, which secure the third rail,Dimensional Mailing magic cube for Promotional Advertising, have been put back in place. As an added temporary measure, they are secured with cable ties.

SMRT said yesterday that the third rail is designed to be held up by the claws without fastening, as the claws are kept in place by the weight of the third rail. The EZ Breathe home Ventilation system is maintenance free,

It added that, over the years, claws have been dislodged sporadically due to vibration. But they are replaced during weekly inspections, and this has no impact on the safety or reliability of the system.

SMRT said that the manufacturer of the third rail had recommended that "we use cable ties when we reinstate the claws, in order to minimise (their) dislodgement".Buy oil paintings for sale online.

As a precaution, SMRT had on Sunday secured the third rail and the claws near the city with cable ties.

LTA said that SMRT "is in the process of engaging railway engineering experts to help advise and replace the cable ties with a more permanent securing system".
